We are finally here! The Premier League transfer window will be officially open in less than 24 hours. In previous posts we have looked at possible arrivals and departures at Arsenal and Aston Villa, Burnley and Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Everton, and Hull City and Leicester City. With the transfer window about to open, let’s look at the rest of the 12 teams in the final article of this series.
Liverpool spent over £100m in summer with the hopes of mounting a title challenge. But thing didn’t go well for them. They are struggling in the league. All their summer signings are yet to prove their worth.
Reported Targets: Xherdan Shaqiri, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Javier Pastore, Sergio Romero, Peter Cech, Guillermo Ochoa, John Ruddy, Wilfred Bony, Christian Eriksen, Karim Benzema, Jacksen Martinez, Eddy Onazi, Alexandre Lacazette, James Milner
Possible Arrival: Sergio Romero
I’m surprised with the fact that Romero is still playing for Sampdoria. He had a fine World Cup and I expected him to earn a move to a bigger club in Europe. But once January comes, the story could be different. Brendan Rodgers is not convinced in his current Goal Keepers and is reportedly keen to sign the Argentine international.
Other Possible Arrivals
- John Ruddy: The England international is currently plying his trade with Norwich in the Championship. He is reportedly keen to move back to Premier League. If Liverpool decide to follow up their interest, he will be happy to join them.
- Alexandre Lacazette: Liverpool spent about £20m in summer to get Ricky Lambert and Mario Balotelli in the summer. But neither has been convincing so far, and the latter has yet to score a goal in the Premier League. So the Reds will be keen to add another striker to their team. Even though a £50m bid for Benzema or for Cavani is being mooted, I don’t think Liverpool will spend that much money in January. So the French international will fit the bill. He is cheap and has already scored 17 goals so far this season. It won’t be easy for Liverpool to get him. He has the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle, and others chasing him as well.
Possible Departure: Lucas Leiva
The Brazilian is still an important player for Liverpool. But the reported interest from his former manager Rafa Benitez, who is in charge of Napoli, will be tempting. And it will be especially tempting given the fact that Liverpool is struggling in the league and Napoli is challenging for the Serie A title.
Other Possible Departures
- Simon Mignolet: I can see this happening if Liverpool sign two goalkeepers. There are reports saying Liverpool has already agreed to a deal to sign Ochoa and Ruddy.
- Mario Balotelli: The Italian striker is being linked with a move back to Serie A. Both Napoli and Sampdoria is interested in signing him. Brendan Rodgers added more spice to this rumor saying Balotelli doesn’t suit his type of game. But to be honest, I think Liverpool won’t let him go in January.
