Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota is proving to be the real deal. Being the second pick in the draft, it was expected for Mariota to do big things. Despite going 3-13 and being out four games, Mariota managed to have very close stats to first round pick Jameis Winston. During his rookie campaign, Mariota had 19 TDs and 10 interceptions compared to Winston’s 22 TDs / 15 Int. When it comes to passer ratings, in 2015 Mariota was a 91.5 compared to Winston’s 86.1, respectively.
After a tough first year, Mariota was excited to see what his second year will bring, and so far he has lead the Titans to a 6-6 record. A BIG problem with Mariota has been interceptions, however, that hasn’t shaken the confidence of the young qb as his total passing yards and overall rating is among the top in the NFL.
Numbers don’t lie
Mariota is setting records and winning awards. He was the first Titans quarterback since Steve McNair to throw for 20 TDs. He became the FIRST quarterback in NFL history to have three games with a 70 plus completion percentage, at least four TD passes, and no INTs in his first two seasons. He won AFC offensive player of the week, and Air & Ground player of the week along with Dallas Cowboys WR DeMarco Murray. He’s ranked No. 7 in passing, with 243 completions, 8th INTs, and the season isn’t even over yet. Many others are beginning to notice the talent Mariota possesses as well. Former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning is a BIG fan of Mariota. “I really like Marcus. He has been to our football camp down in Louisiana every year and he has gotten better every year. Playing is your best experience, and he has improved.” – Manning stated during interview.
