Week 12 of the NFL season is upon us and it is time to present the weekly series dedicated to early picks for each NFL game in the coming week. These picks are straight up and not against the spread. Here you get who the home team and away teams are as well as the chosen winner. In honor of the holiday, and some think I deserve one too, you are getting the straight picks this week and I am forgoing the write-ups for just this week.
You will also get a weekly Lock of the Week. Each week I will pick one game that I feel cannot lose. With that will be supporting data to back up that stance. Obviously each week anything can happen in the NFL but there is always a game that sets itself apart from the others.
Thanksgiving Day is filled with more compelling matchups than normal. Will Calvin Johnson and crew continue to win against Mark Sanchez, Sam Bradford and the Chip Kelly Complex? Can Cam Newton continue his superhuman ways against Tony Romo and crew? Of course there is the battle between Jay Cutler and Aaron Rodgers. Without any further trepidation enjoy the 2015-2016 NFL Week 12 Picks and Predictions, Lock of The Week.
Lock of the Week
Arizona Cardinals over San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers have three wins all season and all three have come at home. They bring in Blaine Gabbert again who has looked like someone other than well Blaine Gabbert since getting the job. Not great but serviceable. The challenge is the offense has scored a whopping 139 points all season which is good for dead last in the NFL by a comfortable margin. Their 252 points allowed are only better than nine teams. Actually even at home they have only scored more than 20 points once.
Meanwhile, the Arizona Cardinals are 4-1 on the road are the highest scoring team in the NFL, even more than the “high power” New England Patriots. Carson Palmer belongs in the MVP discussion and the Running back rotation of Chris Johnson, David Johnson, and Andre Ellington is deep. The Cardinals have scored over 30 in three straight including last week’s win over the Bengals and a 39 point output in Seattle, where everyone agrees it is hard to play.
Baring a San Francisco miracle, there is no logical way that the Cardinals should go into 49er territory and come away with anything short of a win. While it is true that this is a divisional game, the reality is there is a large difference between the top and bottom of the NFC West and that should be validated this week.
