Week six of the NFL season is upon us and it is time to present the weekly series dedicated to early picks for each NFL game in the coming week. These picks are straight up and not against the spread. Here you get who the home team and away teams are as well as the chosen winner with a little data to back up that opinion. It is just that simple, clear and concise.
You will also get a weekly Lock of the Week. Each week I will pick one game that I feel cannot lose. With that will be supporting data to back up that stance. Obviously each week anything can happen in the NFL but there is always a game that sets itself apart from the others. There are a few shockers this week. Without any further trepidation we present the NFL picks and Lock of the Week. Enjoy the 2015-2016 NFL Week 6 Picks and Predictions, Lock of The Week.
Lock of the Week
Minnesota Vikings over Kansas City Chiefs
I might not seem like a lock at face value but it really does make sense. You have to look at it from both sides of the equation. First you have the Vikings coming off a bye week and playing at home. They have Adrian Peterson and the league’s second ranked rushing attack and will be facing the league’s 13th ranked run defense. That defense has not faced a team ranked in the top-5 or top-7 running the ball so this will be a test.
Teddy Bridgewater came out of the shell a bit as the coaches loosened the reigns and he put 269 against the vaunted Denver defense last out. Now they got an extra week to prepare for the Chiefs and the 27th ranked pass defense. You can expect a solid game plan from the Vikings to take advantage of the situation.
The Chiefs on the other hand are losers of four in a row and lost their All-Pro and Team MVP Jamal Charles for the season. Charles accounted for 50 percent of the team’s offensive touchdowns through five games. Charles had five and the rest of the offense managed five. Without taking forever, suffice it to say he was the offense in Kansas City. Trying to fill that void will be Charcandrick West, and no person believes he will be the second coming of Charles in the short term.
Everything adds up to be a comfortable home victory for the Vikings in Minnesota this weekend.
2015 Lock of the Week Record: 5-0-0
|8:25||Atlanta Falcons||New Orleans Saints||Falcons|
|Matt Ryan had a poor game but Freeman and crew saved the day against the Redskins. The Saints made the Eagles look good while they got destroyed. Home field in NO means nothing over the last 7 home games. Falcons on the road to stay undefeated.|
|1:00||Cincinnati Bengals||Buffalo Bills||Bengals|
|Bengals and Dalton show heart coming back from 17 down in the 4th against the Seahawks. The Bills really struggled against the Titans on offense which was a shock even without players. Bengals continue to roll on the road and move to 6-0.|
|1:00||Denver Broncos||Cleveland Browns||Broncos|
|Try this on for size, the Browns are the team with the passing attack and not the Broncos. Peyton is nothing more than a game manager with zero running game. The defense is key. Can the Browns put up points against them? Denver takes advantage of the Browns defense and looks good on offense for the first time with a win on the road.|
|1:00||Chicago Bears||Detroit Lions||Lions|
|OMG, this is a battle of horrific teams. Stafford was benched in a Cardinals blowout. Cutler cannot be trusted ever. Both teams are about even in points for and points allowed. Detroit cannot really be this bad. Stafford starts and the Lions look good at home thanks to a porous Bears defense.|
|1:00||Houston Texans||Jacksonville Jaguars||Jaguars|
|Arian Foster knocked the dust off last week and should step forward. The Jaguars had a tough go of it against Tampa but Bortles looked good in the game. He has weapons and the Texans defense has been shredded all year despite what we all thought they should be. In a cellar battle I take the home team.|
|1:00||Kansas City Chiefs||Minnesota Vikings||Vikings|
|The Chiefs offense ran through Jamal Charles until a non-contact injury knocked him out for the year. Alex Smith is a game manager and will be in a tough spot. AP and the Vikings are at home off the bye and might put up 30. That should be more than enough to handle what's left of the Chiefs.|
|1:00||Washington Redskins||New York Jets||Jets|
|The Redskins are not as bad as many thought they would be almost taking down Atlanta last week. Meanwhile the Jets are overachieving but a lot has to do with the lack of opponents they have played. Overall this is a close game and one that should go to the last possession. I like the Jets to win a squeaker at home.|
|1:00||Arizona Cardinals||Pittsburgh Steelers||Cardinals|
|Rumor has it Big Ben is lobbying to get back on the field for this one. Vick found a way to get a win in San Diego but it was ugly and frankly he still does not look good. If Vick goes he will face a team firing on all cylinders and that could be real trouble at home. Arizona has to many weapons to cover and the Steelers will meet a loaded box against Bell. Unless Big Ben plays I like the Cardinals in this one.|
|1:00||Miami Dolphins||Tennessee Titans||Dolphins|
|A childish QB and a new coach coupled with a bye mean the Dolphins are back and ready for something but who knows what. Will the high dollar defensive line ever produce? The Titans played the injury riddled Bills close before falling last week. Mariota is learning on the fly but this is the game when the Dolphins look better and should be as prepared as ever, for whatever that is worth. I will take the Dolphins in an upset.|
|4:05||Carolina Panthers||Seattle Seahawks||Seahawks|
|The Seahawks have a real offensive problem right now and cannot protect Russell Wilson. The Panthers come in undefeated with a defense that like to get after the QB. Marshawn Lynch will be up in the air until game time but his backup had quite the week last week. The 12th man is tough to deal with and Cam Newton can only do so much. In a very ugly game I will take the Seahawks at home.|
|4:25||San Diego Chargers||Green Bay Packers||Packers|
|After a heartbreaking loss on Monday night the Chargers get rewarded with a trip to Lambeau to face one tough GB team. Aaron Rodgers finally looked human at home but they won anyway. In a statement game for the Chargers they probably will not be saying much. The Packers are just to good.|
|4:25||Baltimore Ravens||San Francisco 49ers||Ravens|
|The 49ers showed some grit and heart last week against the Giants but gave up a game winning drive in the final two minutes. Kap looked better but I am not climbing on any bandwagons yet. The Ravens lost a shootout to the Browns but that is a better loss than it seems. Forsett is running like what we expected over the last couple of games. 49ers are better at home but not good enough.|
|8:30||New England Patriots||Indianapolis Colts||Patriots|
|I know the Colts have won three in a row but they beat up on the South which means nothing outside of their division. Even with Luck this will be a tall order. The Patriots and Brady and taking deflate gate out on every team they face and have made every opponent just look stupid. There is no reason to suspect a situation where the Patriots will not win by double-digits.|
|8:30||New York Giants||Philadelphia Eagles||Giants|
|First place in the NFC East in on the line. The Giants won three in a row and lost 4th quarter leads in their two losses. Meanwhile the Eagles look good, as they should, against the Saints and while they have struggled they lost to three good teams. I am not one to believe Chip Kelly fixed everything in one game so I will lean on the side of caution and back the more consistently performing G-Men in this one.|
