Fantasy football season is right around the corner and it is never too soon to gather as much valuable data as possible. Each person, stat or edge that you can find will go a long way in determining who you should draft and how to structure you team in hopes of winning the 2015 championship.
Below is my breakdown of who I believe will be the top fantasy running backs for the 2015 season. You will find a list and a further breakdown of the top-10 running backs in the list.
The breakdown below is based on a PPR league so take that into account with some of the rankings. With that the running back receives one point for each 10 yards rushing, six points for each touchdown scored, two points for each completed two point conversion, and loses two points for each fumble. Standard passing and receiving rules apply including the point per reception. Obviously much of this data is transferable to numerous different league configurations but I wanted to ensure clarity up front. Let’s get to it and see how the breakdown begins.
Player To Watch On Draft Day – Melvin Gordon
Top-25 Running Backs
Rank | Player | Team | Bye Week |
1 | Jamaal Charles | Chiefs | 9 |
Andy Reid forgot about Charles a few times last year but that should not be a problem again. Maclin should ease box pressure. Good for 1300+ yards, 60 catches and double digit TDs. Safest of the top-4.
2 | Eddie Lacy | Packers | 7 |
Started slow last year but found his place. Expect him to rush for 1,400+ yards and catch 50 balls with double digit TDs with increased workload.
3 | Adrian Peterson | Vikings | 5 |
He is 30 but well rested after suspension. He is the premier pure rusher in the NFL. Good position opposite Bridgewater. Did report he does not feel explosive but that should work out during training camp.
4 | Le'Veon Bell | Steelers | 11 |
Would have been No 1 if it wasn't for two game suspension. Seems a lock for 1,000 yards and 60+ catches even in reduced season.
5 | Marshawn Lynch | Seahawks | 9 |
Steady as they come and can expect 1,000+ yards and double digit TDs. He is 29 and has been a workhorse which breeds concern.
6 | Matt Forte | Bears | 7 |
Caught 100+ last year but that will not happen again. He is turning 30 and has well over 2,000 career touches if you count receptions. Decline is coming but if he gets one more year he can top 1,000 yards, 65 catches and 5-9 TDs.
7 | LeSean McCoy | Bills | 8 |
Chip Kelly took away catches and goal line from hi last year. This year Ryan will pound and he is their guy. 300 touches means volume for Shady. Could be a steal and finish No1 of No2 overall in 2015. How far will you go for him?
8 | Arian Foster | Texans | 9 |
Offense will run through him. He is a stud but can he last a full season without injury? If so he is a 1200 yard and 13 TD back.
9 | C.J.Anderson | Broncos | 7 |
Kubiak has a knack for making good RBs great. Andreson is the guy and they will want to take load off Peyton. Loss of Clady will hurt but he should still top 1,000 yards, 10 TDs and 40 catches. Could end the year as a top-5 RB.
10 | DeMarco Murray | Eagles | 8 |
Huge workload, loss of Big Ds offensive line along with Sproles and Mathews will all affect his numbers. Even so he will get his chances and could still top 1,000 yards and 8 TDs in Chip Kellys offense.
11 | Alfred Morris | Redskins | 8 |
12 | Justin Forsett | Ravens | 9 |
13 | Melvin Gordon | Chargers | 10 |
14 | Jeremy Hill | Bengals | 7 |
15 | Joseph Randle | Cowboys | 6 |
16 | Mark Ingram | Saints | 11 |
17 | Lamar Miller | Dolphins | 5 |
18 | Frank Gore | Colts | 10 |
19 | Carlos Hyde | 49ers | 10 |
20 | Todd Gurley | Rams | 6 |
21 | Jonathan Stewart | Panthers | 5 |
22 | Joique Bell | Lions | 9 |
23 | Latavius Murray | Raiders | 6 |
24 | Andre Ellington | Cardinals | 9 |
25 | Rashad Jennings | Giants | 11 |
