The 2013-2014 NFL regular season is drawing to an end and while several top tier Quarterbacks and players from the 2012-2013 NFL season have been missing in action, there have been a only a couple of elite players who look to make the NFL MVP race a close and competitive contest. The writers and editors here at Sports Unbiased have joined forces to deliver our list of the top NFL players who have performed at the highest level in the National Football League.

2014 NFL MVP Race
Peyton Manning, QB, Denver Broncos
Adam Solowiei – While I hate seeing the same names at the top of certain lists I have no choice but to push Peyton Manning to the top of the 2013 MVP list. Through 14 weeks he has played one bad game – the New England second half collapse. He leads the league with a QBR over 82, QB rating over 115 while throwing for 4,100+ yards, completing 68 percent of his passes, throwing 41 touchdowns, and only nine interceptions. AP is playing well, Calvin Johnson is a machine, and Mathis is destroying opposing quarterbacks, but Manning is leading the league in almost every stat that matters. Love him or hate him, but he is still playing like the best player in the league this season.
Chris Pagliuca – At age 37, Peyton Manning is having possibly the best season by a quarterback in NFL history. In 12 games he has already passed for 4,125 yards and 41 touchdowns, which puts him on pace to break both of those NFL single-season records. In addition to those numbers, Manning has also completed 68.1% of his passes with a Quarterback Rating of 115.3. While these numbers are stunning, let’s not forget to take into account that it’s only been two years since he had serious neck surgery, which makes his play this year even more stellar. Manning has led this Bronco team to a 10-2 record and you can definitely say that they wouldn’t be on the same level without Peyton Manning; which, in my opinion, is exactly what an MVP should be.
Kimani Gregoire – This award is Peyton Manning’s to lose. He’s on pace to break the all-time single season records for TDs and passing yards, and he has the Denver Broncos on pace to break the all-time single season record for points scored. Just like Adrian Peterson last year, Manning is having a season for the ages.
Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks
Brian Podol – Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks may not have as many certain gaudy numbers as Peyton Manning, but he is proving his worth as this season’s NFL MVP. The man named after two sports gear companies ranks third behind Nick Foles and Manning in overall passer rating, but is tied for the league lead in 4rt quarter comebacks and game-winning drives, despite having the highest percentage of times sacked (9.0) of any of the top-10 rated passers. Manning, who is protected like fine china by the Broncos, has only been sacked on 3% of his pass attempts, perhaps a tribute to his ability to get rid of the ball. However, for showing resourcefulness under fire and leading Seattle to an 11-1 record thus far, Russell Wilson looks like MVP material.
JR WIlliams – Russell Wilson gets my vote for the MVP this season. Why? The kid is small but he can certainly ball and I’ll give you a few more reasons as to why he is one of the front runners for this years MVP award. In only two seasons, Wilson has managed to lead his team to 22 wins and counting. If he continues to play with the same efficiency he will break Ben Roethlisberger’s NFL record (22 games) as the player with the most wins in their first two seasons in the league. Beyond his 14-straight home victories and NFC Playoff berths two years in a row, Wilson is a proven leader who continues to put himself and his team in a position to find success on the football field. If he isn’t the MVP, who is?
John Yeomans – This might sound like a broken record but Peyton Manning should win this by a landslide in my book. He only needs to average 337.7 yards and 2.25 passing touchdowns in the next four games to break Drew Brees and Tom Brady’s elusive records, and going by his averages so far this season (343.7 passing yards and 3.4 touchdowns a game) he should take them both down. Also, with his leadership and never give up attitude, the Broncos have come from behind not once but twice this season against the Redskins and Chiefs, while also guiding this team to a NFL best 38.7 points a game. The only real question is if he can hold it together come playoff time.

January 17, 2014 at 10:06 pmTom Brady should be in this no doubt about it, have you seen how much he has done with so little??? He turned an easily 4-12 team into a 12-4 team! His team has suffered major injuries on both sides of the ball yet they still have the 2nd seed in the playoffs! THAT IS STRAIGHT MVP RIGHT THERE!!!
