As we approach week 13 of the NFL season, the AFC playoff race is heating up. For teams like the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, and Kansas City Chiefs it seems they will be a sure lock to be one of the top six teams. However, the interesting race seems to be for the last wild card position which is currently head by the 5-6 Tennessee Titans. All the teams fighting for the last wildcard spot have losing records and with five games remaining anything could happen. Let the fun begin!
- Denver Broncos – 9-2
The Broncos are currently in first but with a loss this past weekend things have gotten closer for the top seed. Also, they win the tie breaker over Kansas City Chiefs based on head to head winning percentage.
- New England Patriots – 8-3
Currently, the Patriots would win the AFC East but after a big win on Sunday versus the Broncos they are only one game out of first place.
- Indianapolis Colts – 7-4
The Colts got beaten down this past weekend, but still hold on to the third spot in playoffs. Currently, they would win the AFC South and win the tie breaker over the Cincinnati Bengals based on best win percentage in conference games.
- Cincinnati Bengals – 7-4
Currently, would win the AFC North but lose tie breaker to Indianapolis Colts. They have a few more big games they must win to keep a hold of the AFC North.
- Kansas City Chiefs – 9-2
The Chiefs are still fighting to beat the Broncos for a top seed but are a sure lock for the playoffs. Currently, they are tied with the Broncos but lose the tie breaker based on head to head winning percentage.
- Tennessee Titans – 5-6
With a last second pass by Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Titans find themselves claiming the last wildcard spot. The Titans win several tiebreakers including over the New York Jets, San Diego Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers.
- Pittsburgh Steelers – 5-6
The Steelers keep winning and are only a spot out of the last wildcard spot. However, they would win the tie breaker over the Jets and Chargers based on head to head match up.
- Baltimore Ravens – 5-6
The Ravens won a huge game on Sunday versus the Jets and now find themselves two spots out of the wildcard spot. They lose the tie breaker to the Steelers, however beat the Jets and Chargers based on better conference win percentage.
- San Diego Chargers – 5-6
After a shocking win over the Chiefs, the Chargers find themselves in the thick of the playoff race. They win the tie breaker over the Jets based on a better conference win percentage.
- New York Jets – 5-6
The Jets haven’t been looking good, however, they still find themselves in the playoff race. With five games remaining this team can still make a playoff push but it won’t be easy.
- Miami Dolphins – 5-6
Miami started the season looking really good but haven’t been a playoff caliber team in the last few weeks and their record shows.
- Oakland Raiders – 4-7
Matt McGloin has brought new life to the Blackhole but has to show more spark if he wants to make a playoff push. The Raiders win the tie breaker over the Browns and Bills.
- Cleveland Browns – 4-7
The Browns still face the Patriots and Bears but there are three games they can win. If they can pull an upset versus the Patriots and Bears, they could be in the playoffs come January.
- Buffalo Bills – 4-7
The Bills are the longest shot to make the playoffs because they don’t win many tie breakers. However, they do have the easiest remaining schedule but it will be very tough.
