At Sports Unbiased we believe in information. We also believe there is no such thing as too much information. With that in mind, we give you at least six collaborative articles per week that will prepare you for the next weeks NFL matchups. The first knowledge grab of the week are the weekly NFL writers picks which is up early each week. Then you can find an in-depth analysis of the week’s marquee matchups in a series we call the 2013 NFL Weekly In-Depth Analysis which is now a series of five articles that cover the marquee games of the week and Monday Night Football. These articles will prepare you in time for your office pools or any other venture you might consider.
As part of the NFL Weekly In-Depth Analysis series we present the clash between the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints. This is a 4:25 PM EST game that will be played at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome as the 7-2 New Orleans Saints host the 6-3 San Francisco 49ers. Here are the Vegas odds for the game and what the Sports Unbiased In-Depth Analysis Team believes will occur this Sunday. The writers taking part are: Josh Madas, Chris Pagliuca and John Yeomans.
Vegas Odds (Spread and Over-under): New Orleans minus 3, 47 1/2 u
John’s Pick: The 49ers will do their best to exploit the Saints weakness which is stopping the run (allowing an average of 5.0 yards a carry), still San Francisco needs Vernon Davis to suit up to help them have a balanced attack Sunday. No matter what Colin Kaepernick has to start generating a passing game, as the 49ers only produce an average of 173.9 passing yards a game. This will be hard to do against a Saints defense that has drastically improved (ranked third only allowing 199.9 passing yards a game) their pass defense from last season. Now the Saints high powered offense (averaging 422.7 total yards a game) won’t be scores in masses like they did last week, as they face the tightfisted 49ers defense (ranked sixth overall). Even so, with the 49ers offense being so one dimensional I don’t see them having enough firepower to defeat the Saints. Saints 24 49ers 16
Josh’s Pick: I am still waiting for Kaepernick to play up to his hype this season. They were held to three field goals last week and were completely shut down in the second half. The 49ers offense is in need of a spark, especially when they are facing one of the most electrifying offenses in the league.
To beat New Orleans at home is virtually impossible. You can categorize them as one of the toughest places to play and put them in the same breath as Seattle and Kansas City. Since Drew Brees has only been held under 21 twice this year, I am finding it hard to believe that San Francisco can keep up. I am picking the Saints to win this game. Final Score: New Orleans 28 – San Francisco 24
Chris’ Pick: The 49ers didn’t look bad in a loss to the Panthers last week, the defense looked strong, but the offense couldn’t put up points. I do see the 49ers being able to put up a decent amount of points against the Saints, however, I don’t believe they can outscore Drew Brees and company. If it wasn’t for Peyton Manning, Brees would most likely be the leader in the MVP race, coming into this week he’s having one of the best statistical years of his career. The 9ers may be able to keep it from looking pretty, but in the end I have to go with the Saints. Saints – 24 49ers – 20
