As part of the NFL Weekly In-Depth Analysis series we present the clash between the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles. This is a 1:00 PM EST game that will be played at Lincoln Financial Field as the 5-5 Philadelphia Eagles host the 3-6 Washington Redskins. Here are the Vegas odds for the game and what the Sports Unbiased In-Depth Analysis Team believes will occur this Sunday. The writers taking part are: Josh Madas, Chris Pagliuca and John Yeomans.
Vegas Odds (Spread and Over-Under): Philadelphia minus 3 1/2, 53 u
John’s Pick: RG3 and the Redskins need this victory in a bad way, as it will push them further to the bottom of the standings if they lose. On offense, Washington has been doing a fine job rushing the ball (averaging 151.2 yards a game and 12 touchdowns), whereas Pierre Garcon has been catching everything that comes his way lately (21 catches 337 receiving yards last three games). However, the Washington defense (allowing 31.9 points a game) can’t keep differing offenses out of the end zone. Now they have face an Eagles team that has been on fire (averaging 478.5 total yards last two weeks) ever since Nike Foles has returned from his concussion. Still, the Eagles defense is not much better (yielding 24.4 points a game) than Washington’s which should make this a high scoring extravaganza. With the way Foles has been playing (10 touchdowns and a 153.8 quarterback rating last two games), I see the Eagles finishing the day on top of the NFC East when it’s all said and done Sunday. Eagles 31 Redskins 28
Josh’s Pick: Quick fact: Last year the Redskins started 3-6 and finished the season 10-6 and on a 7 game winning streak.
I am not stating that this will be the case again this year. Last year’s team was clearly better and did not have as many injury issues as they have had this season. What I am saying is that Washington seems to put it together during the second half of the year. We have seen teams with tons of talent wait ten weeks until they finally started to play great football. Unfortunately, Washington is going up against a streaking Eagles team that has won their last two games. Mostly due to the emergence of Nick Foles at the quarterback position. For Washington to beat Foles, they are going to have to apply some pressure and get Foles out of his rhythm.
While the Eagles have looked extremely good over the past few weeks, I am still not trusting Nick Foles to be a consistent threat in the NFL. Robert Griffin is getting healthier and that only means the Redskins are going to get better. I am picking the Redskins to win in a high scoring game. Final Score: Washington 42 – Philadelphia 35
Chris’ Pick: This game was one of the toughest to pick for me this week and was ultimately a tossup. While Nick Foles could once again work his magic and put up big numbers against a weak Washington Redskin secondary, the Eagles have yet to win a home game this season and I see that continuing. Both teams offenses (ranked fourth and fifth in total yards) will show up and put up big numbers, but in the end, I feel the Redskins will edge it out. Redskins – 34 Eagles – 31
