As part of the NFL Weekly In-Depth Analysis series we present the clash between the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints. This is a 8:30 PM EST game that will be played at Mercedes-Benz Superdome as the 6-2 New Orleans Saints host the 5-4 Dallas Cowboys. Here are the Vegas odds for the game and what the Sports Unbiased In-Depth Analysis Team believes will occur this Sunday. The writers taking part are: Josh Madas, Mike Santangelo and John Yeomans.
Vegas Odds (Spread and Over-under): New Orleans minus 6 1/2, 54 u
John’s Pick: Well I was wrong and Rob Ryan lost once again to his brother last week. A key reason is because the Jets exposed the Saints weakness which is stopping the run (ranked 25th allowing 4.9 yards a carry). This is something that the Cowboys will have problems duplicating this week, as they have been struggling to generate a running game (ranked 26th only averaging 3.3 yards a carry). Still, I actually see Tony Romo doing just fine against Rob Ryan’s blitz packages, as he did face them in practice for two years. Nevertheless, with Drew Brees going up against Cowboy’s appalling pass defense (allows 305.2 yards a game) at home, I see the Saints getting the victory in a quarterback duel. New Orleans 35 Dallas 31
Josh’s Pick: Slowly, I am beginning to believe that the Cowboys are for real this year. Tony Romo has been worth every penny they spent on him and was able to lead an unbelievable game winning drive last week against Minnesota. Dallas’ Achilles heel has been their defense. Romo threw 5 touchdown passes and still lost against Denver a few weeks ago. Their defense has been awful and it does not help that they face a strong Saints offense this week.
I think this is going to be a great game to watch. I am excited to see a high scoring, high paced game. I am hoping that Tony Romo and Drew Brees exchange touchdowns like Ali and Frazier exchanged punches. This game will be fast and will be worth watching this weekend. Despite my belief that Dallas is a good team, I am not 100% sold yet. I am sticking with the Saints to win this game. Final Score: New Orleans 38 – Dallas 31
Mike’s Pick: The Saints this year have found something they haven’t had in quite some time, a defense. Drew Brees is still Drew Brees, and he still whips the ball around a football field like no one else but he and his receivers are even on it. That kind of pass attacks does not bode well for Dallas and their 31st ranked pass defense. Meanwhile, as good as Tony Romo has been this year, he has to face New Orleans’ 4th ranked pass defense, while trying to keep up with Brees and Graham’s high flying pass attack. I just don’t think Dallas has it in them to keep up with the most prolific QB/TE duo in the game. Final Score: New Orleans 30 Dallas 17
