At Sports Unbiased we believe in information. We also believe there is no such thing as too much information. With that in mind, we give you at least six collaborative articles per week that will prepare you for the next weeks NFL matchups. The first knowledge grab of the week are the weekly NFL writers picks which is up early each week. Then you can find an in-depth analysis of the week’s marquee matchups in a series we call the 2013 NFL Weekly In-Depth Analysis which is now a series of five articles that cover the marquee games of the week and Monday Night Football. These articles will prepare you in time for your office pools or any other venture you might consider.
As part of the NFL Weekly In-Depth Analysis series we present the clash between the Denver Broncos and the San Diego Chargers. This is a 4:25 PM EST game that will be played at Qualcomm Stadium as the 4-4 San Diego Chargers host the 7-1 Denver Broncos. Here are the Vegas odds for the game and what the Sports Unbiased In-Depth Analysis Team believes will occur this Sunday. The writers taking part are: Josh Madas, Mike Santangelo and John Yeomans.
Vegas Odds (Spread and Over-under): Denver minus 7, 58 1/2 u
John’s Pick: Expect the football to fly in this one as both teams can sling it (Denver ranked first in pass offense while San Diego ranks fourth), while having major issues stopping it (Broncos ranked 30th against the pass and Chargers ranked 27th). Also, Peyton Manning was able to rest his banged up ankles last week, and now should be back on point after throwing a couple more interceptions (seven) than usually ,in the last two games before the bye. One big difference in these division foes is their rush defense, where the Broncos shine ( ranked third and only yield 81.5 yards a game) and the Chargers are repulsive (allow an average of 4.9 a carry). Manning and the Broncos have outplayed (2-0) the Chargers since his arrival in Denver and I don’t expect that to stop this week, even with head coach John Fox out with health issues. Denver 42 San Diego 33
Josh’s Pick: Denver’s offense has been virtually unstoppable all year. The fact that their only loss came when they scored 33 points suggests that their defense is what needs to step up this weekend. The Chargers have been extremely good on offense so that will not be an easy task. Even still, I would never count Peyton Manning out of a game, despite how poorly his defense is playing.
San Diego’s defense has not been much better. If the Chargers defense could improve then they will be in the playoffs this year. Injury issues have plagued their receiving corps, but that has not slowed down their offensive production. Philip Rivers has been on point and will need to continue that against Denver. As great as the Chargers are playing, I cannot pick against the Broncos this season. Broncos win big in San Diego. Final Score: Denver 48 San Diego 21
Mike’s Pick: And AFC West showdown this week as Denver starts a tough stretch of 4 games including 2 against the so far unbeaten Chiefs. This week they play a team who has been almost as dynamic offensively as the Broncos themselves have. Phillip Rivers has somehow found his football acumen again and is playing at the highest level he’s played in quite some time. However, Peyton, as has been said before, has been ridiculous this year, and there is no reason to believe that he will struggle against a San Diego defense that is ranked 25th against the pass. Not that Rivers will have many issues with Denver’s 30th ranked pass defense either. But, in a shootout, I’ll take Peyton every time, especially coming off of a bye. Final Score: Denver 38 San Diego 30
