As part of the NFL Weekly In-Depth Analysis series we present the clash between the New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals. This is a 4:05 PM EST game that will be played at Paul Brown Stadium as the 5-2 Cincinnati Bengals host the 4-3 New York Jets. Can Geno Smith and the Jets build in the momentum created last week against the Patriots? Can Andy Dalton and the Bengals continue to control the AFC Central? Here are the Vegas odds for the game and what the Sports Unbiased In-Depth Analysis Team believes will occur this Sunday. The writers taking part are: Mike Santangelo, “Coach” Mike Fabber, John Yeomans, and Chris Pagliuca.
Vegas Odds (Spread and Over-under): Cincinnati minus 6 1/2, 41 u
Mike’s Pick: The Bengals are hanging tough at the top of the AFC North while the Jets are having an up and down season for the ages. Literally, they win one, they lose one, they win one, etc… All seven weeks so far it has alternated. This is a loss week. Even if we get away from that trend, which really means nothing considering the small sample size, the Bengals are playing at home where they are 3-0 so far this year. As good as the Jets defense has been so far, no one stops AJ Green. With Julio Jones out, he may be the best receiver in the league not named Megatron, and his speed and size are a nightmare matchup for corners, even ones as good as Antonio Cromartie. Final Score: Bengals 30 Jets 23
John’s Pick: Both teams are coming into this game after winning nail bitters last week and are looking to continuing their success this week. After being relatively quiet to begin the season (besides week one) A.J. Green has been almost uncoverable the last two weeks (12 catches, 258 yards, and two touchdowns), which makes his matchup against the Jets 10th best pass defense very interesting. The most important aspect of this game will be how rookie Geno Smith plays against the Bengals defense that has played well ( Bengals ranked ninth in total defense) for the most part this season. I’m going with the trend that the Jets have held strong with all season, which is play well one week thing bad the next. Final Score: Bengals 17 Jets 13
Coach’s Pick: The Jets are riding high after a big win against the Patriots. They are dedicated to the run game and are starting to get healthy. Geno Smith is starting to look more and more like a real NFL quarterback and fans should be excited about his progress. Their defense is tough but beatable. They find a way to stay in and even win some games they have no business winning. The Bengals are playing like I thought they would and have control over the AFC North. They have an explosive offense and a defense that gets the big stop when needed. The defense will show up this week and make a statement with a big win. Final Score: Bengals 17 Jets 9
