As part of the NFL Weekly In-Depth Analysis series we present the clash between the Miami Dolphins and the New England Patriots. This is a 1:00 PM EST game that will be played at Gillette Stadium as the 5-2 New England Patriots host the 3-3 Miami Dolphins. Can New England rebound after last week’s tough loss to the New York Jets? Can Miami close the gap in the AFC East? Here are the Vegas odds for the game and what the Sports Unbiased In-Depth Analysis Team believes will occur this Sunday. The writers taking part are: Mike Santangelo, “Coach” Mike Fabber, John Yeomans and Chris Pagliuca.
Vegas Odds (Spread and Over-Under): New England minus 6 1/2, 45 u
Mike’s Pick: After last week’s defeat to the Jets, there were a lot of questions being asked about the Patriots. Along with a lot of questions about the new rules and officiating them. Gronkowski seems to finally be healthy, and he had a great game his first week out. However, it’s obvious that Brady immediately went back to his security blanket and made sure he was involved in the game. Maybe more than ever before, Brady seemed focused on one of his weapons to the exclusion of the rest. Usually you can count on Brady to spread the ball around a lot, and he still did, but it seemed as if he was always looking for Gronk. Miami narrowly lost to the Bills last week in a game where they looked to be the better team a lot of the time. I think they can contain Gronk, and the running game, enough to pull off a win in New England this week. Final Score: Dolphins 28 – Patriots 21
John’s Pick: After starting 3-0 the Dolphins have been on a downward spiral losing the last three games with the offensive line being the key suspect, while the Patriots have been decimated with injuries on defense which causes some concern after getting upset by the Jets. Both teams went out this week to try and fix the problems with the Dolphins acquiring offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie and the Patriots bringing back defensive end Andre Carter. On a positive note for New England, Gronk is back and played well (eight catches 114 yards) especially considering it was his first game back since he went down last year in the playoffs against Houston. Having Gronk will be helpful as the Patriots go up against the Miami’s shady pass defense (ranked 25th). I expect the Patriots to exact revenge for last week’s lose on the reeling Dolphins and the final outcome might not be pretty. Final Score: Patriots 31 Dolphins 13
Coach’s Pick: Division rivalry at its best will be seen this Sunday when these two teams clash. Dolphins are in desperate need of a big win to turn their once promising season around. Ryan Tannehill will have to take better care of the ball and the Dolphins have to establish the run game early and often. The Patriots are coming off a loss to the New York Jets and must be pissed off about it. A couple people I don’t want to play in football when they are pissed is Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, they don’t lose back to back very often. This is one of those times they don’t lose back to back. Final Score: Patriots 24 Dolphins 20.
