As part of the NFL Weekly In-Depth Analysis series we present the clash between the Houston Texans and the Kansas City Chiefs. This is a 4:25 PM EST game that will be played at Arrowhead Stadium as the 6-0 Kansas City Chiefs host the 2-4 Houston Texans. Can the Houston Texans turn around their season on the road against the undefeated Chiefs? Can the Andy Reid led Chiefs keep their undefeated streak alive at home? Here are the Vegas odds for the game and what the Sports Unbiased In-Depth Analysis Team believes will occur this Sunday. The writers taking part are: Mike Santangelo, Josh Madas, “Coach” Mike Fabber, John Yeomans, and Chris Pagliuca.
Vegas Odds (Spread and Over-Under): Chiefs minus 6 1/2, 40 u
Mike’s Pick: The Kansas City Chiefs are one of the most complete teams in the NFL this season, With both offensive and defensive firepower that few other teams can match. Meanwhile, the Texans seem to be under the curse of the pick-6. Even after Schaub went down last week, and the fans cheered him being hurt, the karma gods made things right by having Yates throw a pick-6 fairly soon thereafter. That’s not even to mention losing one of their top TD threats in Owen Daniels. Even with Schaub I think the Chiefs would be too much for this Houston team, without him the Chiefs are going to move onwards with their undefeated season Final Score: Chiefs 28 Texans 13
Chris’ Pick: The Houston Texans were believed to be a top team coming into this season, but with struggles at the Quarterback position they’re now a below average 2-4. The Texans have lost four straight and have been blown out in three of those four losses. The Chiefs on the other hand are one of two undefeated teams in the NFL at this point. While the Chiefs don’t have a stellar offense by any means, they have been able to play turnover-free football to put points on the board. What has really been the bright spot of this Chief team has been their pass defense, the Chiefs are third in the NFL in pass yards allowed per game, have allowed the second least amount of passing touchdowns with five, and are tied for first in interceptions. The only way the Texans can win the ball is effectively running the ball with Arian Foster and Ben Tate. Ultimately, I see the Chiefs’ defense causing many problems for backup Quarterback T.J. Yates. The Texans’ woes will likely continue Final Score: Chiefs 27 Texans 17
John’s Pick: After getting shellacked by the Rams it’s clear that as they say in NASA, “Houston we have a problem”. Now they have to face an undefeated Kansas City team that has been rejuvenated by new head coach Andy Reid. Both these teams are at the top in defense (Texans are ranked first and Chiefs are fifth), however they both have issues stopping the run (Texans allowing 121.5 yards a game while the Chiefs are allowing 116.7). With that being said look for a heavy dose of running from both sides. Despite both teams looking so similar there is one statistic they diverge from in a major way. The Texans have had both their quarterbacks contribute to five straight games with a pick six. On the other hand, the Chiefs’ defense happens to have caused the most pick-sixes in the AFC (three) and leads the league in stealing the ball from the offense (18). Adding these two stats together does not forecast a pretty picture for whichever quarterback gets thrown in with the wolves Final Score: Chiefs 33 Texans 17
Coach’s Pick: What a difference a year can make! Last year the Texans were well on their way to competing for a superbowl trip now they are trying to figure out how to win again. The Chiefs last year were miserable, the laughing stock of the league. They are now 6 and 0 and gaining more and more respect and momentum every day. Alex Smith is controlling the offense and playing almost mistake free. While the defense is straight shutting teams down and building one heck of a reputation as a force in this league. Jamal Charles is the most consistent offensive weapon in the league and if he can stay healthy he has a chance to win offensive MVP if Peyton slows down. The Texans are on the other side of the spectrum at this point. They are dealing with some injuries at key positions, bad QB play, and inconsistent play by all. This team might already be out of the playoff picture but they might start getting into the picture of losing a QB and maybe a coach. This game means a lot to both teams but Arrowhead Stadium will be the deciding factor. It is tough to beat the Chiefs and its even tougher to beat them at home Final Score: Chiefs 17 Texans 10
Josh’s Pick: I would have never guessed that the Chiefs would be 6-0 at this point in the season. We all knew that Andy Reid would make some changes and establish a winning program, but no one saw this coming. The Chiefs have reverted back to old school football with clock management and a strong running game. Kansas City is certainly setting themselves up for a tight finish with Denver in their division.
No team is more disappointing then the Houston Texans this season. They have such great talent and it is hard to believe that they struggle to win ball games. I think this game is on the Texan’s offense and whether or not they can put a full game together. Look for Arian Foster and Andre Johnson to come out strong against this tough Kansas City defense. If they can solidify a major role early, then Houston will be in this game at the end.
Despite the strong start by the Chiefs, I am still confident that Houston will turn things around. I am still a believer in the Texans and am picking them to upset the Chiefs this weekend Final Score: Texans 35 Chiefs 24
