As part of the NFL Weekly In-Depth Analysis series we present the clash between the Indianapolis Colts and the San Diego Chargers. This is a Monday Night Football game to be played at 8:40 PM EST game at Qualcomm Stadium as the 4-1 Indianapolis Colts host the 2-3 San Diego Chargers. Can Phillip Rivers continue to light it up while Antonio Gates returns to relevance? Can Andrew Luck and the Colts persevere in a tough west coast road game? Here are the Vegas odds for the game and what the Sports Unbiased In-Depth Analysis Team believes will occur this Monday. This week John Yeomans, “Coach” Mike Fabber and Mike Santangelo provide commentary on the game.
Vegas Odds: Indianapolis minus 1 1/2, 50 u
Mike’s Pick: Both of these teams come in to this week playing very well. The Colts have been good both offensively and defensively, while the Chargers have been an offensive revelation. Most though that Phillip Rivers was done this year, but, aside from Peyton Manning, he has been the best QB in the league through 5 games. Andrew Luck is showing no signs of slowing down from last year’s rookie campaign, and Trent Richardson is bound to find his footing eventually. This week, the combination of offensive and defensive capability for the Colts helps them to win another game Final Score: Colts 38 Chargers 23
John’ s Pick: Phillip Rivers and the Chargers have a top five passing game, still overall the team is the same up and down team that can’t be trusted. The blame for this can go to the 27th ranked defense that let the Raiders perform like they were a playoff team against them last Sunday night. This does not suit well against Colts quarterback Andrew Luck who just played well (104 quarterback rating two touchdowns) against a very talented Seattle defense. Another key note is how well the Colts defense is playing against the pass (ranked sixth) which should cause problems for Rivers. The weak link on the Colts is how they perform against the run, however the Chargers aren’t that great at it anyway (ranked 21st running the ball). If Luck and the Colts can come to west coast and throttle the 49ers, what’s stopping them from doing the same to the lesser Chargers Final Score: Colts 33 Chargers 17
Coach’s Pick: The chargers are coming off a painful lose to the Oakland Raiders late Sunday night or early Monday morning depending where you live. Phillip Rivers is still having a great year with a team that doesn’t have much talent but they keep losing games they should win and wining games they should lose. Rivers cannot do it all and the lack of running game is sickening to watch. The Chargers defense has been hit or miss this year but has the potential to be very good. I took that time to talk up this surprising team because the outcome of this game will not show how good the Chargers can be. The Colts have beaten Seattle and San Francisco and seem to be on a roll that San Diego is not ready for. The Colts will keep the hot streak going this week as well beating this team Final Score: Colts 27 Chargers 17.
