The first knowledge grab of the week are the weekly NFL writers picks which is up early each week. Then you can find an in-depth analysis of the week’s marquee matchups in a series we call the 2013 NFL Weekly In-Depth Analysis which is now a series of five articles that cover the marquee games of the week. These articles will prepare you in time for your office pools or any other venture you might consider.
As part of the NFL Weekly In-Depth Analysis series we present the clash between the New Orleans Saints and the Chicago Bears. This is a 1:00 PM EST game that will be played at Soldier Field as the 3-1 Chicago Bears host the 4-0 New Orleans Saints. Will Drew Brees take the potent Saints offense into Soldier Field and defeat the home Bears? Will Jay Cutler be able to go strike for strike with the Saints and defend the Bears home field? Here are the Vegas odds for the game and what the Sports Unbiased In-Depth Analysis Team believes will occur this Sunday. This week Chris Pagliuca, John Yeomans, “Coach” Mike Fabber and Mike Santangelo provide commentary on the game.
Vegas Odds: Saints Pk 48 ½ u
Chris’ Pick: While the Bears’ defense has been able to cause a lot of turnovers, they have also given up a lot of points and yards. The defense has given up over 20 points in all four of their games and with Drew Brees and the Saints coming to town things don’t look so bright. The Saints, on the other hand, are the second strongest passing team in the NFL only behind the Broncos and the defense has yet to allow an opposing team to score over 17 points against them in a single game. The only hope the Bears have in this game is using their run game to keep the ball in their possession and try to keep this a low scoring game. Nevertheless, I don’t see that happening. Final Score: Saints 30 Bears 14
John’s Pick:This is game that will let us know just how good this Saints team is as they face their first real challenge on the road against Da Bears. Chicago is coming off their first lose, and needs to start showing they can start keeping opposing out of the end zone, with them allowing 28.5 points a game so far this season. This does not look like the game that this will start happening, with Drew Brees and the Saints offense coming to town with the second best passing offense in the league. The true battle that will decide this game will be the Bears offensive line going up against Rob Ryan’s pass rush. New Orleans defense has done a complete turned around under Ryan, going from the worst last year to one of the best this season (fourth total defense) only allowing 55 points in the first four games. With the Saints secondary having more interceptions than they having giving up touchdowns ( gave up three touchdowns and taken away seven interceptions) I see a rough day for Jay Cutler as the Saints keep dishing out revenge for last year’s shake down. Final Score: Saints 31 Bears 21
Mike’s Pick: The Bears defense got absolutely mauled by the Lions last week. Even though they managed a comeback near the end of the game (or scored a lot in garbage time, depending on your perspective), that fact is that they were outclassed pretty much the whole 60 minutes by the Lions. This week they have to face off against a Saints team that has been pretty much unstoppable on the offensive side of the ball. if Matt Stafford can put up 40 points against a defense, just imagine what a quarterback like Drew Brees can do. I look for this game to be as much of a shootout as the Lions/Packers game will be, but the turnovers by Jay Cutler will spell the end of any comeback chance late in the 4th quarter. Final Score: Saints 42 Bears 33
Coach’s Pick: The Chicago Bears have shown their offense is better than years past but the defense is hurting. They are letting teams score more than most of us are used to seeing a Bears defense give up. Well that is a problem when the New Orleans Saints come into town. Drew Brees can barely see over his O-Line but he doesn’t miss a window to throw through. The Turf might be a mess but Sean Payton is back and so is the Saints winning ways. This trend continues this weekend Saints win. Final Score: Saints 38 Bears 24
