First play of the game, Andy Reid calls for a deep route by Dwayne Bowe. Alex Smith delivers a bullet for an easy touchdown and puts six points on the board!
It is obvious that this game is more about the coaches than the teams. Andy Reid knows he needs to come out and make a statement in the first quarter so I am predicting some big plays.
Keys to the Game:
Philadelphia: The Philadelphia Eagles have already proven that they can score whenever they want. Their high paced offense is only going to get faster and their point totals are potentially astronomical. The question is, can they stop the other team from scoring? The Chargers last week, out scored the Eagles and if not for two redzone turnovers, would have blown them out. For the Eagles to win on Thursday, they have to come ready to play on both sides of the ball. The game will come down to: Will Bill Davis and the Eagles defense be able to stop the pass happy Chiefs?
Kansas City: In basketball, you beat a fast paced offense by slowing them down. For the Kansas City Chiefs to win, they must do exactly that. If Chip Kelly wants to go faster, then they must move slower. Do not play into his hand, make him react to their game plan. If the Chiefs can ground and pound the Eagles, then this will be an incredibly close ball game.
Alex Smith will also be asked to manage the game and keep his team from turning the ball over. Nothing sparks a heavy offense more than a quick turnover by the defense. Smith must keep Vick, McCoy, and Jackson off of the field and maintain the possession clock in his favor.
What to Watch for:
Kansas City: Watch for Andy Reid to come out swinging. I am sure he has been waiting for quite some time to prove to the Eagles why they should have never let him go. Thursday night is his opportunity. He will be relying on his stars to pull this one out. I am seeing Dwayne Bowe and Jamaal Charles having stellar games and coming up big for the Chiefs.
Philadelphia: The Eagles are a scary matchup coming off of a tough loss. They are highly motivated and have the upper hand in a shortened week. The less time to prepare for this offense, the worse off your defense will be. Michael Vick is settling into Kelly’s offense extremely well and for the first time in years, looks comfortable on the field. He is managing the game and getting the ball to his playmakers. Watch for Vick to step up big and lead the offense to a high scoring game.
My prediction for this week is that this game will be extremely close. Whether the game is fast paced or low scoring, both teams will have the opportunity to win in the end. Even though the Eagles look like the favorites, I am predicting that the Chiefs pull out a victory. Final Score: Chiefs 35 – Eagles 31
