I will start by saying how much I hope this is not true. I really like RGIII and his clean image was refreshing to a league with its fair share of lowlifes. Have we learned nothing from our past? Are values and morals so messed up these days that on ones wedding day we would be sexting someone? Time will tell but it doesn’t look good for the starting quarterback of the Washington Redskins, Robert Griffin III.
A report has surfaced saying RGIII was doing exactly that and more with multiple women. Reported on deadspin.com they have multiple people willing to sell pictures of him – and I mean all of him. Looking for the highest bidder, these photos could be out as soon as next week. Then what? What happens to all the RGIII commercials, deals, fans, image, and so on? Well if recent history shows us anything, nothing will happen. He might lose a deal or two or a fan or two but in a couple months, it will be old news and he’ll be right back where he started from.
But, what about his new wife and new life? Can he recover from the fall out mentally – it’s been hard for Tiger Woods. A stupid text or photo, maybe a lack of judgment, or even a false story can derail a young promising career. Is all this tweeting, posting, texting really worth what comes with it? I’d have to say no.
It could be a lot worse. I mean we talk about this the same way we discuss murders, failed drug tests, and DUI’s. The real question is when will we learn? In this modern day of instant communication, we should be more concerned with what comes out of our mouths or in this case, phones or computers. Think about the message we send to the young people but also what the messages say about ourselves. We all make mistakes, do things that our character would normally not let happen. The problem is we are not learning from them or the ones before us. This is Favre from a couple years back, only now, they are gun slinging, scrambling, sexters.
Another day, another role model lost to social network and stupidity. When will we understand the cost of our actions?
