Kobe Bryant’s 81 point barrage against the Toronto Raptors in 2006 was one of those particular moments in sports where, as a fan you couldn’t believe your eyes as to what was actually happening. The Toronto fans had no idea they would be witnesses to the second greatest NBA scoring performance from a single player since Wilt Chamberlain dropped 100 points as a member of the Philadelphia Warriors in a 169–147 win over the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962, at Hershey Sports Arena in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
I can remember receiving the news from a relative with complete disbelief. My first reaction was to hit the search engines and several major sports sites for news or statistics regarding Kobe’s performance and to my surprise the story went viral and video footage was all over ESPN and Youtube.
At halftime Kobe had a game-high 27 points, who would have thought he would drop another 27 points in the 3rd quarter, sit the bench for a breather, and finish the game with a career-high 81 points, shooting 28-for-46 from the floor and 18-20 from the free throw line. On January 22, 2013 NBA TV televised a replay of Kobe Bryant’s historic moment, Kobe relived his performance and even tweeted commentary during the broadcast of the game. Now you have the opportunity of reliving this NBA Legendary Moment.
