The NBA slapped Hibbert with a $75,000 fine for his comment during a post-game interview after the Pacers defeated the Miami Heat 91-77, forcing the series to a deciding Game 7.
According to the NBA official site, the team issued a statement from Hibbert on Sunday morning in which he said he was sorry for his “insensitive remarks.”
“They were disrespectful and offensive and not a reflection of my personal views,” he said in the statement. “I used a slang term that is not appropriate in any setting, private or public, and the language I used definitely has no place in a public forum, especially over live television.”
Don’t get me wrong, I respect how Hibbert responded to the media when he called them “MF’ers”, but the slur was unwarranted and he might want to learn to control his emotions before it lands him in hot water again.
During the interview Hibbert also stated that he did not care if he got fined by the NBA for his use of profanity. Perhaps Hibbert should channel his anger into motivation because the Pacers are going to need all the intensity and emotion they can get out of their star center in the final game in Miami.
