Today Sports Unbiased had another serious NBA debate between two writers, Sammie Wright and J.R. Williams. Sammie Wright stressed his concern regarding the return of Amare Stoudemire and Derrick Rose. Sammie Wright believes neither player should return, J.R. Williams believes both players should return because they would be a huge asset to their teams. Check out the details of the debate and voice your opinion.
Debaters: J.R. WILLIAMS VS SAM WRIGHT
Round 1: Should Amare Stoudamire return to play for the New York Knicks? Will his return his presence on the court hurt or help the team?
J.R: Absolutely, Amare Stoudemire is one of the better defenders on the team and he’s the perfect match-up for David West in the post. Carmelo Anthony continues to have problems defending David West on the low-block, Melo versus West is more comparable to a teenager versus a grown man. Melo simply doesn’t have the strength to battle a bonafide power forward. Also, If J.R. Smith continues to shoot horribly from the field, Amare is the next viable option to tally-up points. The Knicks have been pounded on the defensive and offensive boards, Roy Hibbert has owned the low post over the past two games and without a low-post presence the Knicks can’t compete. The Knicks need Amare, end of story!
Sammie: Absolutely?! Absolutely NOT! I don’t think so. Amare Stoudemire should not return to play for the Knicks this season. Coach Woodson should sit Amare Stoudemire down for the rest of the season. I don’t think he will be effective on offensive or defense. There’s practice speed and then there’s game speed. Sitting on the bench you can see all kinds of angles or what you should have done on the floor, but actually on the court in the game is an entirely different story. Right now, Stoudemire is not up to speed and he will be out of sync. It’s the NBA Playoffs, not practice or playground hoops! Sit him down! The only caveat to this is that the Knicks organization could possibly be applying a heat check on Stoudemire so they can position themselves for a trade in the off-season.
Round 2: Should Derrick Rose return to play for the Chicago Bulls? Will his his presence on the court hurt or help the team?
Sammie: I say no. Derrick Rose should not return to play for the Chicago Bulls this season. It’s Derrick’s choice after he has been cleared by the team doctor and if he chooses not to hit the floor. Rose suffered a major injury and he needs to look at the long term aspect of his career. The Bulls seemed to compete with the Heat just fine in game one and they will be ready for game 3. I don’t think Rose can come out and contribute now after missing the season. That would not be good for him or the Bulls. He needs to get his mind right and get ready for the 2013-2014 NBA season.
J.R: Hell yes! Derrick Rose should return to the Bulls line-up even if its only for limited minutes. Coach Spoelstra has found an answer to containing Nate Robinson’s dribble penetration and also limiting the Bulls offensive flow by keeping Noah and Taj Gibson in foul trouble, both tactics have rendered the Bulls helpless offensively. The Bulls need any help they can get, the Bulls need any and every viable option available, if the stadium janitor was available to play, the Bulls should suit him up, that’s how bad the Bulls need offense! A Derrick Rose return would change the dynamic of the Chicago Bulls roster. Who knows what could happen if Derrick Rose waits until next season to make his return, the possibility for another injury is still an issue, whether its next season, mid-season, or during the playoffs, Rose is subject to being injured again. The Bulls are competing for an NBA title this year, if Derrick Rose doesn’t return, the Bulls don’t stand a chance at defeating the Miami Heat.
