Kobe Bryant suffered a suspected torn Achilles injury during the 4th quarter of the Lakers win against the Golden State Warriors. Kobe was helped off the floor by teammates but not after dropping two free throws.
The Lakers defeated the Warriors in a close game, however, without their leading player, the Lakers’ playoff hopes are doomed. During a post game press conference Kobe stated he knew the injury was serious as soon as it happened, Kobe stated ” I can barely walk” but casually joked with the press about the injury. An MRI on Kobe’s injury is expected to be released on Saturday.
Looking forward, the Lakers are in a close race with the Utah Jazz for the 8th playoff spot in the Western Conference, the Jazz remain 1-game behind the Lakers after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Can Dwight Howard rise to the occasion and lead the Lakers? With Kobe out, Howard has the opportunity to be the focal point of the Lakers offense and if Steve Nash can return in time, he and Howard should be an effective duo. Kobe Bryant’s injury is not a good look for the Lakers but I am definitely interested in how Gasol and Howard will respond.
