Hip hop mogul and Brooklyn Nets minority owner Jay-Z a.k.a Sean Carter is looking to sell his ownership of the rejuvenated NBA franchise to pursue efforts in becoming a sports professional agent. The current NBA rule does not allow owners to have stake in a team and represent a player simultaneously.
Jay’s success can be attributed to his hustlers mentality and his ability to make smart business ventures in everything from clothing to sports business and entertainment, he has a great reputation with some of the best players in professional sports. Lebron James is a member of the ROC family and has also appeared in a music video with Jay-Z which leads me to believe Lebron could possibly make the switch to the Rock Nation Company. According to Yahoo Sports, Jay-Z will hope to lure some of the top players in the upcoming 2013 NBA Draft which shouldn’t be a problem considering the fact he is immortalized and idolized by professional athletes and people all over the world.
As a minority owner Jay-Z has shown strong support for the Brooklyn Nets, he has performed several sell out concerts in the team arena, too the lead in the design of the team uniforms, and cheered court-side at several Brooklyn Nets home games. I think this is a great move by Jay-Z and I think he will experience success as long as he does not make the same mistakes as former hip-hop star and business mogul Master P a.k.a Percy Miller who, as an agent was responsible for one of the worst player-agent contracts in sports history. Millers sports contract with ex-NFL running back Ricky Williams has been used as a model for bad contracts. I’m looking forward to seeing what type of success Jay-Z will experience representing professional athletes.
