The Lakers have been at the juncture of rebuilding for a while now. The franchise, which found fresh talents in the face of Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma are now looking for Veterans who could lead these rookies to the Play-offs and further, till they become championship contenders. After getting rid of Clarkson’s big contract recently by trading him and Larry Nance Jr. to Cleveland, Magic has created enough Cap space for the Lakers to draft big players this off-season. But does that guarantees them a talented veteran for the 2018-19 season ? Well, Let’s see the 2018 Los Angeles Lakers Free Agent Predictions.
Kevin Durant, who took a pay-cut at the beginning of this season, to re-sign with the Warriors, made it clear that his priority is a ring. The Warriors are the 2nd seed in the West currently, just 0.5 GB behind the Rockets and are still the hot favorite to win the title this year, while the Lakers are not even play-offs bound. This makes it perspicuous that KD would have no interest in signing with the Lakers
At age 33, LeBron is still one of the best players in the NBA currently and is showing no signs of slowing down. But with only a couple of years left in his career and looking at the increasing level of competitiveness around him, LeBron would definitely want to join a team which could provide him with the help he is looking for. And since the Lakers are on the path of re-building, LeBron might take a pass on them.
At the All-star weekend recently, Paul George informed the media that he isn’t looking to bounce around and play for multiple teams throughout his career and that his next decision, whatever it is, is to make sure he’ll stay there for a duration. Joining the Lakers, PG might have to wait a couple years before he wins his first championship, and although he is young enough to bear with that, he do have a quicker step to the ring with Westbrook and the Thunder.
After six years of being a clipper, Paul decided it was finally time for him to part ways with the franchise. To chase his dream of winning that ring, CP3 joined Harden on the Rockets and together they have been phenomenal , beating the Warriors twice and putting Houston on the top. The Rockets are the favorites to beat the Warriors this year and even if they don’t, Paul would still be re-signing with them this year.
After being traded to New Orleans last year, Pelicans had been doing exceptionally well with Cousins alongside AD and Rondo until Cousins went down with an Achilles injury earlier this year. The Pelicans, who even struggled to reach the Play-offs until last year, were looking like a top championship contender before Cousins injury. It’s no doubt that a healthy Cousins would be willing to comeback to the Pelicans and see how far they could get themselves in the race next year.
To put it all in a nutshell, the closest Lakers could come this year in signing a Veteran is Paul George, and even that looks like a long shot.
