Sports Unbiased Staff G.F.R. Analysis
Sauping R. Arguello – Gay has been a top small forward for several seasons but I think this is as good as it gets. His shot selection is questionable and has worn thin with previous teams he’s been on.
Jr. Williams – There’s no denying Rudy Gay is a talented scorer, his field goal percentage has been the best since he left the Raptors, however, the only concern is whether or not he can elevate as a player into becoming effective in other aspects of the game. Gay rebounds the ball well but is an average defender in my opinion. If he we’re in the Eastern Conference he would be in the NBA All-Star discussion, and this season I expect to see him remain among the top scoring SF in the league. Personally, I think he has the skill to be a great player, the only question is his work ethic.
Keith Rivas – Rudy Gay is at a crossroad between good and great, but nowhere near elite. If his development continues at a steady rate, he’ll make the jump sooner than we’d expect to see.
Ben Buchanan – Gay is another scoring threat. He puts up big numbers every season and never gets recognition for it. In the 2014-2015 season Gay averaged 21.2 ppg to go along with 6 rpg. If Gay can continue to put up big numbers he could start getting more recognition around the league. Next season is key for Gay and I except him to step up and play very well with the rest of the Kings.
Summary
Rudy Gay ranked at an elite level in offensive ability, clutch factor, and durability. His defensive ability and ball protection kept his GFR down, however, he's an overall elite player according to compiled scores. Gut Feeling Rating Score (GFR) = 7.0, Elite SF (Click here for more info on the GFR rating system)
