Sports Unbiased Staff G.F.R. Analysis
Keith Rivas – Russell Westbrook went from right-hand man to Superman with Kevin Durant out with injury for the better part of last year. After a dismal — to be kind — start to the year, Westbrook took complete charge over the Thunder and officially made them his team.
Never before had we seen Westbrook’s leadership abilities take over like they did in 2015, and despite not making the playoffs because of a close-as-ever race with the Pelicans, he makes for the best point guard in the NBA.
The bottom line is if you can single-handedly take a team that was headed for the dumps and no question a bottom feeder to a potential playoff team you’re good enough for the top spot. Time to see if these rankings hold up through next season.
Ben Buchanan – Westbrook was on a tear in the 2014-2015 NBA season, many thought he was deserving of the MVP award. Westbrook carried the OKC Thunder when Kevin Durant was out because of injury, but he just fell short. Westbrook is a rare athletic specimen and can do certain things on the basketball court unmatched by anyone. Westbrook is a good shooter but he drives to the rim with the best of them. Westbrook showed what he could do if he was working by himself in 2014, and he certainly impressed.
Steve Turner – I don’t think Russell Westbrook is human. This guy can do it all. He’s an amazing scorer, passer and rebounder. He’s a triple-double machine and led the league in scoring last year. The only problem I have with his game is that he takes a lot of shots, but it’s something I’ll get over. Other than that, Westbrook is one of the best players in the game.
Sauping R. Arguello – Westbrook had a historic second half of a season in 2014-15. He nearly averaged a triple-double during that span. I’m not sure if there’s a more explosive player at the point guard position. His criticism has always been on his shot selection and shoot first mentality so it’ll be interesting if his production will go down now that Kevin Durant is healthy.
