Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James are considered by many to be three of the greatest players to have ever put on a professional basketball jersey. Each legendary player has lead their respective team to winning multiple NBA titles while earning countless awards which include hoisting the league MVP at least once in their career. There has been a long going debate in regards to who is the best player of all-time, most people would argue without a doubt that Jordan is the best player ever, some people believe it’s LeBron, and many would chose Kobe.
In this scenario we are not going to take the easy route to simply debate our opinion on who should be crowned the greatest player of all-time. Instead lets assume we are holding down an NBA general manger position for a team that has the No.1 pick in the draft. Lets also assume that Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James are among the players available pick.
If you were the building a team, which player would select as your franchise player? Jr. Williams, Greg Patuto, and Jared Cortes share their thoughts.
Kobe vs Lebron vs Jordan: Who would you build a team with?
Greg Patuto: To me, this question is a no-brainer, Michael Jordan. Jordan not only possessed the best skill set, but he had the killer instinct that a player has to have. Jordan wanted to rip your heart out every game. Winning 6 championship in 6 NBA Finals appearances and a national title means that Jordan knows how to win. Jordan is the best of all time and will continue to be the best even after Kobe and LeBron retire.
Jared Cortes: If I were starting off my franchise and the draft board had every player in NBA history on it, my first selection would be LeBron James over Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. LeBron’s ability to pass the ball and make his teammates better surpasses Jordan and Bryant if only by a hair, and overall LeBron has the widest basketball arsenal of any of the three. The scoring, the rebounding, the passing, and the defending are all their, even if Kobe and Michael are better scorers. It’d be much easier to build a team around The King than The Black Mamba or Air Jordan.
Jr. Williams: There are so many scenarios in which I could pick any of the exceptional players mentioned above but my choice is simple — Micheal Jordan. Why? Because without him, there would be no Kobe Bryant or LeBron James. Jordan’s basketball DNA flows through them every time they step on the court. Even in the current NBA era, he is the baseline example of where many players aspire to be. Jordan was the ultimate competitor, his failure made him stronger, and there hasn’t been a single player in the NBA to-date who has matched is consistency to play at the highest level regardless of his health and condition ( Kobe is a close second ). Lets also not forget that Jordan remains undefeated in an NBA Finals series. LeBron may have the talent but Jordan has the heart, passion, and burning desire to win no matter what. I’m willing to bet eight out of 10 general managers would pick him over Kobe and LeBron.
