Quick recap of the top news in the NBA from July 8th through July 14th.

Great move by the Mavs. Ellis is a proven scorer who I think will add much more of an offensive threat than O.J. Mayo. As a member of the Mavs, Ellis has the opportunity to play alongside veteran players such as Vince Carter and a legitimate superstar in Dirk Nowitzki. This transition will allow Ellis to elevate his game and help lead the Mavericks to the playoffs after a disappointing 2012-2013 NBA season.
O.J. Mayo signs three-year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks:
I wish I could say that this is a good move, unfortunately I cannot envision this situation benefiting neither Mayo or the Bucks organization. The combination of Mayo and Brandon Jennings is actually worse than pairing of Jennings and Ellis. Based on the current roster I expect the Bucks to miss the 2013-2014 NBA post season. The Milwaukee Bucks need more size and depth, not more guards.
Dallas Mavericks top pick Shane Larkin breaks ankle in practice:
In my opinion Larkin is one of the top steals of the 2013 NBA draft and you hate to see a guy go down with an injury before starting his professional career. According to the NBA official website, Larkin is expected to miss up to 3 months after fracturing his right ankle during NBA summer league play. I wish him a speedy recovery hopefully in-time for the 2013-2014 NBA season.

Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett officially traded to the Brooklyn Nets:
Can’t say that I’m happy about the trade but I look forward to seeing Pierce and Garnett lift the Brooklyn Nets past the first round of obscurity onto a highly favorable 2013-2014 NBA Eastern Conference Finals appearance. If Pierce and Garnett can stay healthy, the Nets have more than enough experience and talent to make it to the NBA finals. The combination of Garnett and Brook Lopez almost reminds me of a throw-back version of Tim Duncan and David Robinson. This is the end of another great Boston Celtic era but I must say the Eastern Conference just got a lot deeper.

Scottie Pippen being sued $4M for Malibu fight:
NBA Legend and one of the 50 Greatest Players of All-time was involved in a scuffle at an upscale Southern California restaurant where he allegedly spit in then punched an autograph seeker in the face. Lakers waive Metta World Peace:
Lakers use the NBA’s amnesty agreement to waive Metta World Peace. I think World Peace has alot of game left in the tank but the Laker’s have to make the necessary moves if they plan on making the post season. With the loss of Dwight Howard and the rehabilitation of Kobe Bryant, the Lakers appear to be a team on the verge of rebuilding. The Lakers need allot of talent in a short amount of time, otherwise, Kobe Bryant might look to jump ship soon.

If Bynum can make a healthy return, the Cavs could make a push for the 2013-2014 NBA playoffs as a potential 7th or 8th seed. Kyrie Irving has emerged as one of the top five point guards in the league while Bynum’s presence alone could easily add 10-15 additional wins for the team. What helps the Cavs most are the recent transactions made by the Celtics and the Bucks. Both teams lost alot of talent which will result in a drastic decline in wins when compared to the previous season and expect the Cavs to capitalize due to such a shift.
