Prediction: St Louis Cardinals in 6 Games
I made a mistake in the NLCS and I am not going to do it again. I did not give enough credit to Michael Wacha and the Cardinals pitching staff. I treated the NLDS as a type of aberration and predicted a return to good but not exceptional regular season form but not again. Adam Wainwright has been nothing short of exceptional during this post season run and if he has been exceptional then Wacha has been mind blowing. I thought the stage would get to big for him but instead he went pitch for pitch against the best in the game and made them look foolish.
However the Cardinals staff will face a Red Sox team that will hit, they will steal bases and manufacture runs. They will also come into this series with plenty of power. They will not be pushed over but that is where the Cardinals offense will come to play. They were a shell of what they can be in the post season to date and that will change at the forgiving dimensions of Fenway Park. They did hit for power but I expect a return to more contact and gap hits in this series. While the Red Sox rotation is not a push over I would expect to see more production against them than the Cardinals had in earlier rounds against superior rotations.
The Red Sox rotation is quality as well but they have not been pitching at the same level as the Cardinals rotation. Clay Buchholz did step up in Game 6 to send the Red Sox to the World Series but the Red Sox rotation is not as powerful across the board. Of course if they have a lead I have more confidence in the Red Sox bullpen than the bullpen in St Louis.
The 2013 World Series will not be a bunch of blow outs but in close games how can you not favor the current rotation in St Louis. Sure Boston is an impressive ball club with players that have been there before but the same can be argued about the St Louis Cardinals. Could the Red Sox win this series? Of course that is possible but I am learning from my NCLS lesson and backing Wainwright, Wacha, Holliday, and crew in St Louis to return the Cardinals to the promised land as World Series Champions.
