When it comes to the presentation of the game I was a little disappointed that FIFA stuck with the same Windows 8 look like in NCAA Football 14 and Madden 25. Slap a new sticker on it and call it new I guess. It is EA after all. On the plus side it’s easy to navigate. The stadium animations and team introductions were relatively decent with an occasional video skip here and there but that’s to be expected with such a high hardware demanding games on limited console hardware.
I don’t know which version of this game Scott is playing (Xbox 360 – Scott), but on the PS3 the presentation is not only the same old boring Windows 8/tablet feel, it’s horribly laggy. It amazes me how a game can have such great graphics and yet have problems with menus fading in slowly, or taking a second or two to switch from one set of menus to the next. My plan was always to buy the PS3 version now, and then when the PS4 version came out to upgrade, so this may be a temporary thing for me. But, on the PS3, the menus and such are horrible. It takes away almost all enjoyment of modes like Ultimate or manager/career when it takes what seems like forever just to switch to different menu’s to go take care of different tasks.
It’s unfortunate that the standard camera for the game is so far away but it’s obviously for good reason, you need to see the pitch. That’s field for you Yanks. When the game does occasionally zoom up close, the field, fans and players look good. Problem is when you play from the half a mile away TV view you don’t see any of the detail. Why put so much effort in graphics when you can’t see them? The game needs more close ups during transitions and a better default view.
I really enjoy the player models, field models, and stadiums when playing as just one player (in career/player mode). It brings in the view from the mile high mode Scott is talking about (unless the ball is all the way across the pitch from you) and allows you to really see everything the game has to offer. Watching little things like a defender cutting in front of you and using his arm to block you out is pretty amazing. Especially when you’ve seen that player do that exact same thing in a real match.
