New York City FC have confirmed the signing of Spain and Atletico Madrid striker David Villa to a three-year deal.
The deal marks the club’s first signing since their official announcement as an expansion club last year by Major League Soccer.
The 32-year old Villa is fresh off a La Liga title-winning season with Atletico Madrid with 13 goals scored in 36 appearances. He also helped them reach the UEFA Champions League final where they lost to city rivals Real Madrid in extra-time. He has also played for Spanish clubs, Sporting Dijon, Real Zaragoza, Valencia and Barcelona during his playing career.
Villa is also Spain’s all-time leading goal scorer with 56 goals in 94 appearances and was part of the teams that won both Eurp 2008 and the 2010 World Cup. He is currently on Spain’s 2014 World Cup roster.
