Over the weekend manager John Gibbons said that R.A. Dickey would be the Blue Jays’ Opening Day Starter and that Brandon Morrow would start their home opener on April 4th. Gibbons did not give any other details regarding the rotation, leaving the final three spots to the teams former ace Ricky Romero, prospect Marcus Stroman, Mark Buehrle, J.A. Happ and Drew Hutchison.
With just a couple of moves made Tuesday the Toronto Blue Jays solidified their starting rotation. Romero and Stroman were sent down to the Blue Jay’s minor league camp and are expected to pitch in the starting rotation at Triple-A Buffalo. The decision came after both pitchers had disastrous outings on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers. Romero started the game giving up three runs and five walks in just two and two thirds innings of work. Stroman was only able to get through one third of an inning, allowing seven runs with only the one out.
Those outings Tuesday made the decision for the rotation easier for Gibbons. The Blue Jays rotation will now look like this: Dickey, Buehrle, Happ, Morrow and Hutchison.
