Premier League giants Arsenal will face Wigan Atheltic in the FA Cup semifinal at Wembley Stadium. The other semi will feature Hull City versus Sheffield United.
Arsenal, looking to win their first silverware since the 2005 FA Cup, is now overwhelming favorite in the competition following their 4-1 win over Everton on Saturday. Meanwhile Wigan produced the result of the weekend with a 2-1 upset of another Premier League giant, Manchester City at Etihad Stadium yesterday. This is the second straight year in the FA Cup where Wigan (relegated from the Premier League last season) has shocked City. Wigan took advantage of a City lineup dominated by second-string players, with manager Manuel Pellegrini choosing to rest his regulars for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Barcelona.
Sheffield United became the first League One club (the third tier of English football) since 2001 to reach the FA Cup semifinals following a 2-0 defeat of Charlton Athletic. They will play Hull City, which defeated Sunderland 3-0.
The semifinals will be played on the weekend of April 12-13.
