What can you say about the St Louis Cardinals organization? They know how handle talent before it hits the open market. Young star in the making, Matt Carpenter, is close to signing a deal in the neighborhood of six years/$55 million.
A very smart for an organization that wants to make sure they do not lose their home grown talent. Carpenter has made the most of his last two seasons playing for the big boys of the NL Central. In 278 games he hit .306 while scoring 170 runs, gathering 78 doubles and driving in 124 runs. The important note is that each relevant stat improved in his second season including runs scored (80+ increase), doubles (30+ increase) and OPS (.828 to .873) . The Cardinals are smart to try and lock up Carpenter before he gets too expensive.
