Lance Berkman has decided to call it quits after 15 seasons in Major League Baseball. Berkman spent the majority of his career with the Houston Astros but won a World Series Title with the 2011 St Louis Cardinals. He was also a six time National League All-Star and the member of a playoff team on five different occasions. Berkman blames his physical condition on his choice to retire.
According to Berkman; “it doesn’t make sense to play in the physical condition I’m in.”
Berkman will finish his career with 366 home runs, 1,234 RBI, 422 doubles and a career .293 average. He also finished in the top-5 of the Most Valuable Player voting on four different occasions and won the 2011 National League Comeback Player of the Year Award. When talking about the decision Berkman stated;
“I’ve had a great career, I did everything anyone could have set out to do. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next.”
