The Masahiro Tanaka sweepstakes is officially over and now that the Brewers have agreed to a deal with Matt Garza the baseball world is turning their attention to Ubaldo Jimenez and Ervin Santana with the latter seemingly drawing the most current attention.
At a minimum the Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles have all checked in on the free agent right-hander. Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports has been reporting that Santana is asking for a deal in the four year $60 million ballpark. Question is that since Matt Garza only received four years $50 million, will Santana have to lower his demands.
As of a week ago, Ervin Santana still was seeking a four-year deal in the $60M range. Chances of him getting anything close growing slimmer.

A team not being talked about that could appear to steal the services of Ervin Santana, in my opinion, is the Arizona Diamondbacks. Kevin Towers, the general manager of the Diamondbacks, has a talent filled young rotation that could use a veteran inning eater in Santana. Pitchers like Archie Bradley, Patrick Corbin and Wade Miley would benefit from his veteran presence. I have talked about this previously and do not be surprised if it comes true in the realm of a four year $42-$45 million range.
