There will be a Swiss male in the Australian Open final.
No, not Roger Federer (he faces Rafael Nadal in the second semifinal on Day 12) but Stan Wawrinka, who will be playing in his very first Grand Slam final.
The eighth seed Wawrinka defeated seventh seed Tomas Berdych 6-3, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 in a tightly contested match (Wawrinka won just one more point than his opponent) that lasted nearly three and a half hours.
Meanwhile the 2014 Australian Open women’s final is all set.
Fourth seed Li Na of China will be in a third Australian Open final after beating Canadian teenager Eugenie Bouchard 6-2, 6-4.
She will face No. 20 Dominika Cibulkova. The diminutive Slovakian, who defeated Maria Sharapova earlier in the tournament, demolished fourth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska 6-1, 6-2 in just 70 minutes to reach her very first Grand Slam final.
