Recently acquired Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay has been sidelined with a Achilles tendon injury which occurred during the Kings vs. Rockets game on Wednesday night. Prior to the injury, Gay appeared to be a roll after setting a career high in points (41) on Tuesday night, he seemed to fit in perfectly with the Sacramento Kings lineup after joining his third team since entering the league as a 1st round draft pick in 2006 (8th overall). The injury appeared to happen early in the first quarter during the Rockets game, Gay was spotted limping off the court heading to the locker room.
Gay averaged 19.8 points and six rebounds per game for the season. His Achilles injury is just one of many that have plagued many star players over the past two seasons. Is it the shoes? One would have to ask, as this type of injury appears to be among the largest amount of related injuries the league has witnessed in years.
In other unsettling news, Sacramento Kings star DeMarcus Cousins was also injured during the third quarter of the Rockets game with an apparent ankle injury. Cousins suffered the ankle sprain during a layup attempt versus an opposing player. Cousins should be expected to return soon, while Gay could be sidelined indefinitely.
