Nikkan Sports reports that Rakuten Golden Eagles will post Masahiro Tanaka making him available to all Major League Baseball teams. Just last week it was reported that Rakuten was going to give Tanaka a record contract offer but it appears the times are changing. Could this be because Tanaka did not want to sign, despite what was said in public, or was $20 million to much for Rakuten to pass up even though it is much less than they would have received under the old agreement.
It is widely known that the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs are very interested in acquiring Tanaka. In fact, according to David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com, the Cubs will be all in on Tanaka. With Theo Epstein at the helm it is hard to doubt the fact. What will remain is whether Tanaka will be willing to turn down the Dodgers or Yankees to head to Chicago. Expect the Yankees forget about other Japaneese missed and to make an offer larger than the contract Boston paid for Dice-K
Same source: "This is exactly type deal that Theo/Jed will be all in on. However, will Tanaka say no to Yanks/Dodgers etc? Not sure he will"
