Shin-Soo Choo is probably the most coveted of the available free agents still on the market and he probably should not be available. After the Yankees signed Jacoby Ellsbury to a $153 million deal they offered Choo a contract for a reported seven years at $140 million. According to Jess Passan of Yahoo Sports, Scott Boras, Shin-Soo Choo’s agent, countered the Yankees looking for a deal similar to Ellsbury. Boras expected to get a deal like he always does but the Yankees went with Carlos Beltran at a much lighter three years and $45 million.
With the Yankees of the table Boras will have to find a home for Choo as well as a team able to at least match what eh Yankees had offered. Can he? The Rangers have been interested and rumor has it that the Astros are at least inquiring. But will either team be willing to meet those contract expectations? For the sake of the super-agent, I hope Boras can find a deal at least close to what the Yankees offered.
