The Cleveland Indians are listening to offers on pitcher Justin Masterson. The New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks are interested. The New York Yankees have taken the front seat in the sweepstakes for the pitcher. The Yankees are willing to part with Brett Gardner in the deal but the Indians lack a need for his services. According to Bob Nightengale, the Yankees are looking for a third team to make a deal work. The Yankees would prefer to move Ichiro in a deal and keep the younger Gardner but understand he might have to be traded to get some quality starting pitching.
The #Yankees would like to grab #indians Masterson in a 3-team trade involving CF Gardner if they can pull it off

There needs to be third team involved for #Yankees to land Masterson since #Indians don't need Gardner
