The Masters is one of the most iconic golf tournaments in history. Yes, it is only one of four majors as it shares billing with the US Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship. But is it really? There are many who will tell you that winning a US Open is incredible, that historically there is nothing better than winning The Open Championship or that just winning a major is special but none would disagree that the Masters is just different. Better? Maybe, maybe not but the Masters is just different. It’s Augusta, it’s the Green Jacket, and it’s simply put…The Masters.
Every player who ever sticks a peg in the ground imagines what it would be like to wear the green jacket only worn by those lucky and talented enough to be called Masters Champion. A proven champion will add to their resume, a veteran will break through or a young upstart cements their place in golf history. In honor of the week, I thought it would be fun to break down the Top-10 performances in Masters History. This is no easy task given the hallowed history of the event and the incredibly large number of memorable moments. But since that time of year is closing in then why not break it down from a historical greatness perspective. I will lay out what I feel are the Top-10 moments ever witnessed at Augusta National. Did Bubba Watson’s 2012 win (below) make the list? Enough delay, let’s get to it.
