Graeme McDowell: 2013 has become a feast or famine season for Graeme McDowell. He seems to either be all systems go or struggles to get out of the gate. With the apparent overall parity in golf on both the PGA and European Tour’s in 2013 that should not be a reason to avoid a player that has exactly what the British Open needs. Graeme is an experienced links player and has a natural low ball flight that will play in his favor this year at Muirfield.
On the PGA Tour this season Graeme has started nine events making the cut in five of them. However, when he makes the cut he makes it count with four top-25s, four top-10s, a third and a victory at the RBC Heritage. On the PGA Tour in 2013 Graeme is fifth in driving accuracy, 11th in strokes gained putting, second in scrambling overall, second in scrambling from the rough and third putting from 15-20 feet.
He is second in the Race for Dubai and also has two victories on the European Tour in 2013 with a victory at the Volvo World Match Play Championship and a recent victory at the Alstom Open de France. In his career at the British Open McDowell has a tie for 11th in 2005, tie for 19th in 2008, tie for 23rd in 2010 and a tie for fifth last year.
In a field full of parity and with the betting favorite not playing recently due to an elbow injury can see no other player in this field as a more logical win candidate than McDowell. To that end my prediction is Graeme McDowell as the 2013 British Open champion and as such he is the pick I will back.
