Impact News: San Francisco Giants pitcher Chris Heston threw his first career no-hitter tonight against the New York Mets. In a unique twist he did hit three total batters in the game. Those were the only three that reached base.
The no-hitter is the 17th in San Francisco Giants team history and keeps the Giants streak of no-hitters at four consecutive seasons including the perfect game Matt Cain tossed and both Tim Lincecum no-hitters.
Short Term Impact: Celebrate what was the first no-hitter of the season tonight. The rookie stepped up and shut down the Mets in his 12th start of the season and 13th of his career making him the first rookie to throw a no-hitter since the Red Sox Clay Buchholz in 2007.
Long Term Prediction: The no-hitter is something he can take with him for the rest of his life but don’t think he is the second coming of Clayton Kershaw or even teammate Matt Cain. He is holding down a spot in the rotation thanks to injuries to Jake Peavy and Matt Cain. Once they return he will be relegated to the bullpen or optioned to AAA.
His career MLB ERA is 4.35 albeit a small sample size but in six seasons in the minors he is one game over .500 in 128 lifetime starts with a 3.56 ERA with a career minor league WHIP of 1.25. He is a serviceable player who can expect to be a spot starter going forward or possibly a back end of the rotation guy. It is nothing personal but don’t let one night over hype his career path. Just enjoy it for what it was, an outstanding performance on a given night. Nothing more and nothing less.

June 10, 2015 at 10:55 amSo perhaps Heston’s no-no will be his Bobo Holloman moment.(On May 6,1953,Holloman
hurled a 6-0 gem at the Philadelphia A’s,only to be demoted to the minors in July, never to resurface on the “Show” as a pitcher, though Holloman scouted for years until his May 1,1987 heart attack passing at age 64.
As a final fillip,Holloman’s moribund St. Louis Browns left to become 1954’s and today’s Baltimore Orioles, while the A’s forsook “The City Of Brotherly Love” for Kansas City in ’55,then their present home,Oakland in ’68.Anyway,GREAT JOB,CHRIS HESTON!!!!!
