WWE superstar, Jack Swagger, was sentenced to six months probation and court costs of $1,498 including a fine of $500 this afternoon, after being found guilty of DUI and speeding.
The incident occurred on February 19th 2013 when Swagger was arrested in Gulfport, Mississippi for driving under the influence, marijuana possession, and speeding. Swagger was later released by authorities and a court date was scheduled for May 15th.
Swagger, 31, is a former World Heavyweight Champion and a former United States Champion. He also was the 2010 “Money in the Bank” contract winner, guaranteeing him a title shot at any time within that year.
Jack Swagger is the latest in a long line of superstars that have been arrested over the years on a range of different charges. Former United States Champion, Santino Marella, most known for his cobra strike attack, was arrested on DUI charges in 2008. Unlike Swagger, he was not put on probation, but forced to pay a $500 fine to the court.
In 2008 former WWE Champion, Jeff Hardy, was arrested for trafficking controlled prescription pills, and possession of anabolic steroids. In all, authorities found over 200 Vicodin pills, over 100 soma pills, and about 600 milliliters of anabolic steroids. Hardy was later sentenced to ten days in jail for the crime.
Former World Heavyweight Champion, Big Show, was also arrested in 1998 for exposing himself to a female hotel employee in Memphis, Tennessee. The Big Show was later released due to lack of sufficient evidence against him. He was still a member of the WCW roster at the time.
In court today, Swagger was spotted awaiting his trial with a splint on his hand. When asked about the injury by a Miami Herald reporter, he responded saying he severed the tendon in his thumb. There is no word on when Swagger will make his return to the WWE, but TMZ reports that Swagger was also ordered in court to attend an alcohol and substance abuse class for first time DUI offenders.
