If January brings excitement of the New Year to a normal person, for a football fan it brings the excitement of the mid-season transfer window. The transfer season that lasts for 30 days is key for teams to make necessary adjustments in their roster and prepare for the second half. We have already discussed possible arrivals and departures at Arsenal, Aston Villa, Burnley, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, and Everton. Here we continue our prediction of possible deals that will be made by Premier League clubs during this transfer window with a look at Hull City and Leicester City.
Hull City had an impressive first season in the Premier League. A comfortable mid-table finish and a spot in the Europa League was definitely more than what they expected. But this season, things took a different turn. Hull City splashed a lot of cash in summer and signed a lot of players. But unfortunately, Steve Bruce’s side is struggling to gel. They are now battling for their existence in Premier League. Hull City already has said good bye to a playe, sending Hatem Ben Arfa back to Newcastle.
Reported Targets: Aaron Lennon, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Andre Ayew, Lee Cattermole, Adnan Januzaj, Chris Martin, Connor Wickham
Possible Arrival: Emmanuel Agyemang Badu — The Udinese midfielder will be tempted if he is presented with an opportunity to play in the best league in the world. His physical strength would be a valuable asset for Steve Bruce’s midfield.
Other Possible Arrivals: After spending too much in summer, I don’t expect Hull City to splash a lot of cash in January.
- Chris Martin: Hull City is desperate for a striker as their current strikers are struggling to find the net. Hull is trying to sign Derby County’s Scottish international striker to solve their goal crisis.
- Adnan Januzaj: The Belgian international has so far failed to impress his new boss Luis Van Gaal at Manchester United. He is reportedly available on loan. Steve Bruce will be interested in raiding his old club for the winger.
Possible Departure: Tom Ince
The young winger rejected advances from Inter Milan to sign for Hull City in the summer. He has since failed to make an impression. He is now a target for Championship side Nottingham Forest. I expect him to move away on a temporary basis in January.
Other Possible Departure: Harry Maguire — The highly-rated English defender joined the club in summer. He is struggling to force himself into the first team and now finds himself behind the pecking order. He may be tempted to move away in order to get some playing time.
