The Los Angeles Angels' Albert Pujols is one of baseball's all-time greatest hitters. He's had a couple slow years since joining the Angels after spending 11 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, but he proved that he is still one of baseball's best Tuesday when the Angels took on the Washington Nationals. The Angels won the game by a score of 7-2. Of course their win was not the story of the night. The night was all about Pujols. He became the first player in Major League Baseball history to hit home runs numbers 499 and 500 in the same game and also became a member of an elite club joined only by the best hitters ever to play the...

It was announced Monday night that White Sox pitcher Chris Sale was headed for the 15-day disabled list. Unlike the long list of pitchers before him, however, he does not have ligament damage but a flexor strain. In 2014 that is especially good news for a pitcher suffering from elbow soreness. It makes him extremely lucky, but let's back up a little. On Thursday Sale threw a career high 127 pitches in a performance in which he and his opponent, Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester, both took no-hitters into the sixth inning. Lester and the Red Sox ended up victorious and Sale ended up with a lingering soreness in his left arm. Over the weekend...

New York Yankees' starting pitcher Ivan Nova is the latest in a very long list of pitchers to land on the 15-day disabled list. He exited Saturday's loss, to the Tampa Bay Rays, in the fifth inning with elbow soreness. We've learned by the many pitchers this season to have elbow soreness that this is almost always a very bad sign. Taken last night, an MRI has revealed that Nova has partially torn his Ulnar Collateral Ligament. Most pitchers who tear their UCL require Tommy John surgery. The 27-year old right-hander is scheduled Nova to be seen Monday by the Yankees' team physician Dr. Chris Ahmad. If Nova does in fact require surgery...

The Oakland Athletics are always doing things out of the ordinary. Friday they did something that is seemingly becoming the norm. The club announced that they had extended the contract of LHP Sean Doolittle for the foreseeable future. Recently quite a few teams have been locking down their young talent to long term contract extensions that takes them through their arbitration years and often into the player's first years of free agency, which is exactly what they A's did. The A's are known around the league for doing the opposite, just letting players go once they hit free-agency and not paying them much prior to that. While the...

It's a good question really. What do crazy fans who attend almost every ballgame do when their team is on a long road trip? Right now my Oakland A's will have been gone 10 full days when they return Friday to take on the Houston Astros. (I threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Ryan Cook at the first A's vs. Astros game in 2013 but that is another story for another time.) Anyway, of course there are fans and season ticket holders who follow their teams on road trips, my self included (but again that's another story for another time). Yet no one can follow their team to every city, unless of course they are a millionaire and can travel...

Seven-time NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady made his baseball debut on Wednesday with the Sugarland Skeeters. The Skeeters are a Texas team, part of the independent Atlantic League. As the Skeeters took on the Alvin Community College baseball team in a scrimmage, McGrady was their starting pitcher. He pitched just one inning and threw only 15 pitches, nine of which were for strikes. McGrady, 34, gave up one run on three hits . It was the only run Alvin scored while the Skeeter scored 10 runs to win the game. McGrady has not necessarily made the team yet. They are still in the process of cutting down their roster from 34 players to 27...

It appears that the Boston Red Sox may be the next team to lose an important pitcher to injury. Red Sox closer, Koji Uehara, felt soreness in his right shoulder and was unavailable Friday. According to CSN insider, Sean McAdam, will not be available again Saturday. Koji unavailable again today, will try long toss tomorrow. Possible return to BOS for exam after that. Sox delaying any roster moves for now — Sean McAdam (@Sean_McAdam) April 12, 2014 Uehara was a huge part of the Red Sox World Series Championship run last season and had been off to a strong start in 2014. He's pitched five innings, giving up just 3 hits and striking out...

Major League Baseball has no plans to suspend Yankees' pitcher Micheal Pineda for having what resembled pine tar on his hand during Thursday night's game vs. the Boston Red Sox. According to the rules of MLB, rule 8.02 states that a pitcher may not apply a foreign substance of any kid to the baseball. The second part of the rule 8.02 (b) states that a pitcher may not "have on his person, or in his possession, any foreign substance." The punishment that goes along with Rule 8.02 and 8.02 (b) is that the pitcher will be ejected from the game and subject to an automatic suspension. MLB issued a statement saying, "The umpires did not...

It's been a huge controversy among the Oakland fan's and a tough decision for A's manager Bob Melvin, being that it is still so early in the season but Jim Johnson, acquired from the Orioles in exchange for Jemile Weeks and David Freitas, has been demoted from his original position as the Oakland Athletics' closer. This come as no surprise to many, as Johnson has blown three saves already and barely, just barley got the only one he has on his resume this season. He's been terrible to say the least and it is good for him to be demoted. He can work out his command issues in low pressure situations as opposed to when the game is...

The answer to the question is that they probably won't. There appeared to be a chance for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to compete in the American League Western Division in 2014, according to some experts but that chance was downgraded this morning. Now it is goodbye to the  possibility of a comeback year for the Angels' outfielder Josh Hamilton who, up until Tuesday night, was looking like he might have one. The 32-year old was batting .500 after the first week of the season going 12-24 with two home runs and six RBI. Here is the reason as to why it's never really a good idea to slide into first base. It's a no slide zone,...
