We end our string of EA Sports title reviews for 2013 with NHL 14. I thought this would never end. I'm on EA overload. The NHL series has been around for 22 years now. We all remember the critical acclaimed title that launched this series into the stratosphere with NHL 94 for the Sega Mega Drive and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. You guys remember right? It stinks getting old. In 1996 the series grew even bigger with the release of NHL 97 on the PlayStation One. The game had solid controls and gave you the ability to make huge hits that would send your opponent flying through the air in an almost comical fashion. Not...

The stadiums that are like cathedrals. The pride of nations. The roar of the crowd. The over the top celebrations. The short shorts. This could only be one thing - FIFA 14 is out and the world renowned title by EA Sports is ready to consume the lives of millions of soccer fans for the next couple of months. Many players are excited to start anew with the fan favorite game mode Ultimate Team and build their team into a soccer juggernaut.   What's New FIFA 14 has updated some other modes such as Career mode and Season mode. In Career mode you can coach/manage both Club and Country teams at the same time. Also a new scouting...

Usually when you're right about something that everyone else says you're wrong about, you like to rub it in their faces and gloat while you emphatically state, "I told you so," over and over again. With that being said, when the NCAA announced in July that they would be cutting ties with Electronic Arts (EA), I stated that the NCAA Football series is done within a couple of years (I was right earlier than expected). Many others said, "you're crazy, they still have the conferences and schools backing the game. Your comment is irrelevant, fail." Don't you just love social media? This was somewhat true but not many of them understood...

After reviewing Madden 25 and NCAA Football 14, I found myself wanting a change of pace. I wanted to play a football game that was more arcade like. Something that was simple. Something old school. So I hopped in my DeLorean, gunned it to 88mph and went back into sports video game history. The simplest and most addictively fun football video game that I remember playing as a kid was Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES and later the upgraded version on the Super Nintendo. The original Tecmo Bowl for the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) was just as fun but only carried 12 teams and none of the players names were 100 percent accurate since...

The tragic death of DeAntre Turman comes as a shock to us all. Turman was one of Georgia's top football players at Creekside High School in College Park, Georgia. This past Friday during a scrimmage game against Bannecker High School, Turman was involved in a collision with another player. Based on the description of the play by Creekside High School coach Glenn Ford, Turman made a break on a play and was trying to separate the ball from the player - what most would say is a common football play. The result however was not common. Upon impact, Turman fractured his third cervical vertebra - Turman broke his neck. After being transported...

It's everyone's favorite time of year again. Another NFL season is right around the corner. This time of year generates a tremendous amount of buzz and hype for the season ahead, especially for NFL fans that are also gamers. That's right, it's time for another installment of Madden. This year's game, Madden 25 or as most will refer to it, Madden 14, looks to revamp the series and have a huge impact going forward among the sports gaming community. With the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 ready to be released around the holidays, many cannot wait to see how Madden plays on the next generation consoles. Unfortunately we will have to wait so...

According to multiple sources the SEC, Big Ten and Pac-12 will not renew their contracts with Electronic Arts (EA) regarding licensing, though individual universities may agree to license agreements with EA. This comes only weeks after the NCAA made its announcement that they were parting ways with EA. Not all is lost for EA at the moment, but it is delaying the inevitable. EA recently signed a three-year agreement with the Collegiate Licensing Company for approximately 150 schools the company represents, including some SEC schools. This list of schools has not yet been made public. That's somewhat of a victory for EA -- a very small...

Before we begin this debate, let's take a look at the expenses these Student-Athletes have covered for them on a full ride scholarship. I know not all student-athletes get this luxury of a full scholarship but let's do the math anyway. Provided in the links are the tuition costs for the University of Alabama and University of Oregon. Let's use Alabama for our math shall we. It costs around $20,000 for a semester at Alabama for non-resident(doesn't live in state) students. Cover that over the average of two semesters per year over four years for a Bachelors Degree (or sports eligibility) you get $160,000. What if the Student-Athlete gets...

When this story first ran many internet sources had their own theory as to why Johnny Manziel left the Manning Camp. Well he didn't leave, they (Manziel and Manning Camp) "mutually" agreed he should go home. Many websites were stating that Manziel had been out the night prior partying on Bourbon Street til the early hours of the morning. He was late the first day and no showed the second day. No phone call was made to explain his whereabouts and the staff of the Manning Camp had to track him down. During the SEC media day Manziel stated that he had overslept, his phone was dead and he was tired from traveling. Who are you trying to fool?...
