On Tuesday, the San Antonio Spurs, who's known as one of the most progressive franchises in the NBA,  announced that WNBA star Becky Hammon has been hired as an assistant coach. : Spurs hire Becky Hammon as an assistant coach: http://t.co/HQEJ1YGrjk #GoSpursGo — San Antonio Spurs (@spurs) August 5, 2014 Hammon, who retires from the WNBA this year after 16 seasons, the last eight of which she spent with the San Antonio Stars, is a six-time WNBA All-Star and was named as one of the WNBA's Top 15 Players of All-Time in July 2011. She ranks seventh in the league's history in points (5,809), fourth in assists (1,687), and sixth...

LeBron James may have been voted the most popular male athlete in America, but that doesn't mean he is the NBA's most likable player. The Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant is ahead of James when it comes to this statistic via the Q Score, which is a measure of familiarity and public appeal.  Durant solidified himself as "Mr. Likable" with the heart-warming MVP speech he delivered at the end of the NBA regular season. After that moment, Durant's marketability went through the roof, but the league's MVP admits there wasn't an agenda when he stepped up to the podium to accept the award after leading the Oklahoma Thunder to the second...

The Team USA scrimmage game took an unfortunate turn for the worse when Indiana Pacers guard/forward Paul George suffered a severe and gruesome leg injury Friday night. **The video below of Paul George's injury sustained during the Team USA scrimmage is disturbing and may not be suitable for some viewers. httpv://youtu.be/6OR8fmYCnBk George ran down the floor in pursuit of opposing player James Harden during transition defense.  After attempting a block, George came down and slid into the stanchion behind the basket and his leg wrenched in such a way that coaches, players and fans in the area covered their eyes or looked away in shock...

The biggest soap opera in the NBA continues to stay relevant during the off-season and it doesn't look like it will fade away anytime soon. The distraught owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, Donald Sterling, filed a new lawsuit in Superior Court Tuesday afternoon seeking damages from the NBA, Commissioner Adam Silver, and the Los Angeles Clippers basketball club.  Sterling alleges that the entities in the lawsuit violated corporate law in the attempt to sell the Clippers to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer for $2 billion. Sterling announced the new lawsuit while giving a testimony on Tuesday in the trial to determine whether his...

After being interviewed three times during the three months after the Lakers parted ways with former head coach Mike D'Antoni, the Los Angeles Lakers have reached an agreement with Byron Scott to be their next head coach. The deal is worth a reported $17 million over four years, with a team option on the final season. Lakers owner Jim Buss made Scott a verbal offer on Thursday and Scott and his representatives were reviewing it before okaying the contract this weekend. Scott stated that he spent last year analyzing Lakers games for Time Warner Cable SportsNet, so he's more than familiar with the team's returning players. "It feels...

Buzz City is making moves to make themselves relevant in the NBA.  The Charlotte Bobcats and their lowly records and stats started to fade into NBA history on May 20 and the team officially became the Charlotte Hornets once again.  Charlotte was home to the Hornets from 1988 to 2002, but the team moved to New Orleans and eventually became the Pelicans. The Hornets (then Bobcats) started their transition of becoming winners when majority owner Michael Jordan and the organization were able to nab former Utah Jazz center Al Jefferson from free agency and sign him to a 3-year / $41 million contract before the 2013-14 season. "I think...

Kevin Durant signed a 5 year / $89.16 million dollar contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder which makes him an unrestricted free agent in 2016.  The Washington Wizards seem to be setting the table to try and snag the four-time scoring champ with the moves that they are making right now. Durant was born in Washington, D.C. and has always referred to the area as his home.  Since LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony either reverted or stayed in the cities that they considered home in Cleveland and New York City respectively, the "going back home" movement seem to be trending and the Wizards are doing everything in their power to capitalize...

While the Houston Rockets were pursuing a big fish (or two) in free agency, it seems like they dropped the ball on a valuable player who was on their roster.  Small forward Chandler Parsons will go from the NBA's best bargain to a $15 million a year player within a matter of days and will slip right from under the Rockets' nose. Parsons averaged 16.6 points and 5.5 rebounds last season.  A second round pick in 2011, he became a fixture in the Rockets rotation by starting 207 of the 213 games he has played. Parsons signed a 3 year / $2.50 million contract with the Houston Rockets in 2011 and had a Club Option in 2014 where if they...

There were seven coaching vacancies in the NBA at the end of the 2014 season, but the funny thing is the Milwaukee Bucks nor the Brooklyn Nets were one of them.  In the last two weeks the Brooklyn Nets basically traded their head coach Jason Kidd to the Milwaukee Bucks, the Bucks fired their head coach Larry Drew before he even knew his job was in jeopardy, and the Lionel Hollins will replace Kidd as the coach of the Nets.  Whew! Kidd's exodus from the Nets started in December when the team had a 10-21 record at the end of December and rumors were going around that Kidd was on the hot seat.  He was unhappy with the rumors and his...

The well anticipated 2014 NBA Draft was Thursday.  Some might say it was worth the hype and others might say it was over-hyped, but teams had their pick of the litter of future stars and busts in what may go down as one of the better drafts in league history. WINNERS Boston Celtics - They grabbed two players in the first round that can help them right now.  Point guard  Marcus Smart has the passion for the game which is needed in the Celtics roster.  He is incredibly strong and will enhance the defense.  Small forward/shooting guard  James Young will only get better and help the team grow.  With Avery Bradley and Jerryd ...
