Week nine of the NFL season is upon us and it is time to present the weekly series dedicated to early picks for each NFL game in the coming week. These picks are straight up and not against the spread. Here you get who the home team and away teams are as well as the chosen winner with a little data to back up that opinion. It is just that simple, clear and concise.
You will also get a weekly Lock of the Week. Each week I will pick one game that I feel cannot lose. With that will be supporting data to back up that stance. Obviously each week anything can happen in the NFL but there is always a game that sets itself apart from the others. There are a few shockers this week. Can Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and crew keep rolling? Will Aaron Rodgers score enough to beat Cam Newton and crew? Who wins when Derek Carr and the upstart Raiders play the Steelers? Who wins when Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay go to Denver to face Peyton Manning and the Broncos? Without any further trepidation enjoy the 2015-2016 NFL Week 9 Picks and Predictions, Lock of The Week.
Lock of the Week
New England Patriots over Washington Redskins
Okay I know he is fired up and that kind of emotion is something a team should love but, Kirk Cousins asked us all if We Liked That. Sure it was the biggest comeback in franchise history but it was also against the Bucs so that should be considered.
I do feel like I am cheating taking the Patriots again this week but the reality is this is Lock of Week and that is what they are. They are dominant and running on every possible cylinder. They can power run with LeGarrette Blount and win if they need to, they can play finesse out of the backfield with Dion Lewis if they need to, Tom Brady can air it out and crush opponents, or they can even play defense to shut an opponent down.
The Redskins are clearly better than they were originally believed to be but this is a whole other level and one game that they are just not going to be able to win on the road. They will put up a valiant fight for a quarter or maybe two but then the Patriots will pull away. They are on a mission this year and everyone just might be playing for second place.
2015 Lock of the Week Record: 8-0-0
|8:25||Cleveland Browns||Cincinnati Bengals||Bengals|
|I will be the first to admit the Browns are not a pushover anymore but this is a different game on national TV. The Bengals look every part as good as their record indicates and even in a dog fight without their best they still beat the Steelers. Winning ways continue.|
|1:00||Miami Dolphins||Buffalo Bills||Bills|
|A battle of the cellar of the AFC East. Miami was throttled last week but then again who doesn't get crushed by NE lately. Meanwhile, the Bills could not handle the Jaguars. This should be a game the Bills can win at home so I lean that way without a lot of confidence.|
|1:00||Green Bay Packers||Carolina Panthers||Panthers|
|GB is not as dominant on the road and they had a rough go against a powerful defense but are better than that. The concern is their inability to stop the run and the combination of Stewart and Newton could run rampant. This just feels like a 24-17 home win|
|1:00||St Louis Rams||Minnesota Vikings||Vikings|
|The Rams looked good but that has been against the Browns and train wreck 49ers. Meanwhile, the Vikings are taking care of all business minus undefeated Broncos. Diggs is emerging and an added weapon and they should handle business at home.|
|1:00||Washington Redskins||New England Patriots||Patriots|
|See the lock of the week|
|1:00||Tennessee Titans||New Orleans Saints||Saints|
|It is hard to even begin to fathom a way that the Titans can handle a team clicking on all cylinders even without Robinson. Don't expect 52 again but 30+ should be more than enough to get the job done|
|1:00||Jacksonville Jaguars||New York Jets||Jets|
|The Jets showed the world that the record was a bit of the product of their opponents to date. They are still a good team though, just a cut below. That cut, regardless of QB should be enough to score at home|
|1:00||Oakland Raiders||Pittsburgh Steelers||Raiders|
|A rough spot to get Big Ben back but then lose the man in Bell to IR. Williams is a solid step in but not the same. The Raiders are much better than given credit and can score. They are primed and Steelers are hurting. Take the upset here.|
|4:05||Atlanta Falcons||San Francisco 49ers||Falcons|
|Teammates of Kap think he should be benched so he can relax and learn the system. It is so bad in San Francisco that they would rather have Gabbert in the short term. That is scary.|
|4:05||New York Giants||Tampa Bay Buccaneers||Giants|
|If you told Eli that he would throw 6 TDs and no Ints and lose he would have laughed. Still it happened. The Bucs should have easier go against the Giants lack of defense. Bucs lack enough firepower this time.|
|4:25||Denver Broncos||Indianapolis Colts||Broncos|
|All they do is win and the Broncos defense is playing at historic levels. The Colts are still not proving anything against real competition. Luck is hurt worse than we thought. Peyton gets out of the way and manages this team to victory.|
|8:30||Philadelphia Eagles||Dallas Cowboys||Eagles|
|Dez is back but it is still Cassell charged with getting him the ball. Randle is who knows where, McFadden is a breeze from injury but they still have a line. The Eagles are an enigma wrapped in a puzzle but there is talent and Mathews needs the ball more. Cowboys are beatable at home, especially this edition.|
|8:30||Chicago Bears||San Diego Chargers||Chargers|
|No Forte and load lays on Cutler, wouldn't that be interesting. The Chargers do not have the wins but they can really score. However, they lose Allen for at least this week and who knows how long. In a game that should not be on MNF if it wasn't for a predetermined schedule, the Chargers do enough at home.|
